With the major league season in full swing, one thing the lax fan may not know is that the MILB season started this past Thursday. This is the place to discuss any breakout players you might be looking at, and questions about prospects you're looking into, and maybe a bit of information to be passed on for those of you who take some time to go with your family to a MILB game.

I know that some sharks may be hesitant to pass on info they may have about such things because of leagues they may be participating in that have MILB rosters. That's all well and good. What we're looking for here is just to generate a bit of discussion on some players who may become the next stars in the MLB.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....the pitcher I'll be watching more than anyone this year is Matt Moore (TB). He's lead the minors in K each of the last 2 seasons. This year though, he's starting in AA, and we'll see how his K rate will translate to more advanced (and patient) hitters. Great first start 5 IP 1ER, 2 H, 7K....but he took the loss. More encouraging, no walks. I am a bit worried about his BB/9 rate, but if the 2nd half of last season is any indicator, he's on the right track.
He's a name you want to file away for the latter half of the season, or into 2012.

KC's future studs started this week in Albuquerque (one of my hometowns), one thing to note is to not overrate the performance of KC's pitchers, ALB is a absolute hitters paradise, so when you see the numbers for Montgomery or Duffy, they did their job that is as reasonably expected in that altitude and condition.

Chris Davis is off to a torid start, not that it will really matter, he's not in Arlington anytime soon unless there are injuries but he is a prime candidate to be traded. Wouldn't suprise me if he stays in RR all year until september call ups, the Ranger's aren't wanting to part with him for just anything. Also, the Rangers have gotten rid of some good players (Danks, Agon, Hafner) and I probably think John Daniels wants to realize the potential of these guys instead of trading them for someone like Adam Eaton.

I am really keeping my eye on Chance Ruffin, had disgusting numbers as a senior at Texas and is starting in AA Erie as the likely closer. Detroit hasn't been shy about moving their pitchers through their system and it wouldn't surprise me to see him fast tracked. His potential is limited to deep leagues where strong ratios are valued. His future is in the pen but could provide K/9 numbers like Kimbrel and Sale gave us last year.

Good call on Matt Moore.

It will be interesting to see how he develops. He has 2 ML plus quality pitches now and reminds me a little of a left handed version of Strasburg with that fall off the table curve ball that he combines with a power fastball.

I follow Chris Archer, another TB pitching prospect but his upside seems to be less at this point at least compared to Moore.

DET's Jacob Turner is another who might fast track it given his tools and control. He started the season in AA Erie and tossed a 9K / 1BB / 2 H performance in his first start over 6 innings. Issue with him is age - he won't turn 20 until next month.

Charlie Furbush is another DET pitcher to watch although he's probably a long shot in terms of a viable fantasy option down the road. A late bloomer (25) who might be finally figuring out how to harness his ability and improve his control. He has the ability to generate K's. He'll start at AAA Toledo where he looked good in his first outing.

Quick link to the current year stats for a number of high profile minor leaguers, some of whom we'll see before the year is out.

The link will take you to Baseball Reference.com's site and the individual player page and should provide up-to-date stats during the course of the season.

Post fixed.

I've also added the Dodgers OF Jerry Sands - another guy we'll probably see sooner than later if he keeps up his hot start at AAA.

Too bad some bastich already has him in SSB.

matt moore on the hill again tonight. the only problem i have with him, is he pitches for the montgomery biscuits. i can't get over the fact that because of it's logo, the team looks like it should be sponsored by Hardee's.

Julio Teheran pitches tonight (Thursday).

We'll add Red C Devin Mesoraco to the list above. I'm keeping an eye on him as a possible call up later in a deep league (not SSB - Oar the bastich has him =D> )

Bryce Harper hit his first HR...won't be the last.

3 prominent yankee minor leaguers out....

Dellin Betances - DL -blister. Obviously minor
Manny Banuels - DL - blister. Same
Gary Sanchez - out - undisclosed injury. This one doesn't sound good.

Funny line I read...

Quote:
Jerry Sands hits another home run last night and James Loney swings at another fastball two feet of out the zone.

Sands is coming sooner than later. He had a couple more hits last (Thursday) night.
