Matt Forte did not attend the first day of Bears' voluntary activities on Monday.
Of all the players holding out for a long-term contract extension after being slapped with the franchise tag, Forte is probably the likeliest to hold out or be traded by his team. The 26-year-old is expecting a contract that rivals the highest-paid backs in the league, but the Bears are aiming closer to league average. With Michael Bush under contract, the Bears have some leverage with Forte, but it doesn't sound like he'll budge. This has the makings of a long holdout.

I know there was a discussion in the Free Agent Signings thread on this topic last week, but since this is going to be a year long issue, I figured I'd make a thread.

He'll never get a contract like that. No matter how badly he and Badgas want him to.

I hope he gets traded, just not to the Pats...I own Forte, Bush, Ridley, and Vereen on the same team....

If I'm CLE or PIT, I'm on the phone right now to get the asking price.

GB would be a perfect fit but it'll never happen for a lot of reasons.

His contract demands won't become reasonable for a new team. Pit can't afford him, and I doubt cleveland wants to afford him.

If I'm CLE or PIT or GB then I'm going after Stewart who will cost less overall.

Agree it will be difficult to move Forte in a trade now.

It's doubtful anyone will trade for him without having worked out a long term deal which on the surface seems to be pricey given the market price for RB's and what it's being reported Forte is looking for.

Maybe I'm being nieve but the Bears seem to be holding all the cards right now with Bush under contract and the possibility of adding another RB via the draft or a one year rental like a Ced Benson.

At 8 mill no one will touch trade or even mildly think of him. AD and CJ's contracts are probably some of the dumbest contracts that even Al could not conjure up. I would have rather let AD walk then invest 8-13 mill a year in him.

go Ricky go! No really leave. Go away. Don't look back, Don't pass go..Don't collect $200.00.

Teams don't pay a QB and a RB big money. Look through the league. It just isn't out there.

I like Matt and all and I feel for him, but he's massively overplaying his hand. He's not AP. He's not CJ. He's not even Ray Rice, who's in the exact same situation but isn't complaining a bit. Actually, just yesterday he mentioned on twitter that he understands that the business side is tough, but he knows his role. He also mentioned that his brother is in the armed forces, so that keeps things in perspective for him.

Basically what I understand is that there is an offer on the table that is reasonable. I believe this to be true for a couple of reasons, but foremost is that nobody has leaked the numbers yet. If it were a low-ball offer, Forte's camp would have leaked the numbers to get public outrage on his side. They certainly don't mind playing the media. If it were a great offer, the Bears would leak it to get pressure on their side for him to sign.

Nobody has leaked any numbers, which means there's probably a reasonable offer on the table that he just won't accept.

So he'll hold out like so many before him, then he'll sign his tender before the season starts. Forte will get hurt because he didn't have any off-season work. Bush will step into his role and do fine, with Bell as viable depth.

Forte will collect his 7.4 mil and find a soft market next year for a 27 year old RB with a very heavy workload early in his career and two season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons. He signs into a committee role as an above-average scat back wishing he were in Chicago on a team committed to the run and willing to give him the biggest contact offer he'll ever get.

a decent RB costs 3.5 mill and gets 4.1 YPC. 1100 7 tds

A stud RB cost 8-9 mill and get 4.8 YPC 1500 12 tds

.7 ypc 400 yards 5 extra tds is not worth 6 mill.

Stud RB's should be paid no more then 6 mill. Thats fair.
