Everyone keeps talking about Leshore but to my knowledge no RB has ever regained pre injury form after a FULL thickness achilles tear. Best is eventually gonna get knocked out, feel bad but its true, which leaves us with the question, is kevin smith a late rd RB gem? He stepped up last year before an injury but he was bagging groceries for most of season before he got that call from the Lions. You know he is seeking some $$$$ so will a whole offseason of training make him a lil' more durable? Dude is going in like rd 12-13 in ffcalc ppr mocks. Thoughts?

if by "late round gem" you mean "good for about 60 yards and an occasional TD," sure, he could do that. But if you're looking for something more than a bye week fill-in, look somewhere else.

Memory refresher

Back in 2009 before he got hurt, he was a mid - low PPR RB2 and has ball catching skills so he could be a PPR league asset if:

1. He's fully healthy....possible since he's a few years removed from the injury

2. Has something left in the tank....possible since he's a low mileage back only 25 years old.

3. He vaults ahead of of J Best for touches....possible but unliklely absent another J Best injury.

4. M LeShoure isn't a factor for touches. My gut feeling is that he will be by seasons end.

Too many things have to go right for him to be anything more than a handcuff for Best but one that if I drafted and needed Best as my RB2, I'd probably invest a draft pick in taking Smith as insurance.

Even as someone who just traded for him (cheaply) in a dyno where I'm desperate for RB bodies much less talent, Redraft drafting K Smith as anything more than a 'cuff or possibly trade bait to the Best owner doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I'd take him as my RB4 or RB5 for $1 in my auction league ($200 salary cap).
I wouldn't spend more than $2 on him, but he has potential as shown by his big game last year. If I remember correctly he was doing pretty good in the game that he ended up getting hurt in.
He's worth a shot if the price is right and you have the roster space.

in deep dynasties, he's most definitely worth a stash. in redrafts, he's not worth drafting unless you own best or leshoure. that said, he's on my short list of FA targets once the season gets rolling.

Yeah my favorite thing to do in drafts is draft 2 of the best handcuffs there are n then either use em if injury occurs or sell high to the cuffs owner. I did it last year w bush +tate

I would say at this point he isn't really a late round sleeper but a guy to keep an eye on once the season starts. He showed his talent last year and he looked really really good. He would need a Best injury to become relevant and even then he would be splitting touches with Leshoure.

Fantasy football is strange though and situations change so quickly. If you really like his talent then stash him

Yep, I won't necessarily draft him if I take Best a/o Leshoure but I'll be thinking about it at the end of the draft.

K Smith can produce when healthy. Not sure I would draft him in my ppr league where we can only take 4/5 max Rb's? But I will be keeping him flagged on our WW w/out a doubt.

I dunno, i really don't think I will take him.... Use old now, injury prone and the want to ,ove away from him. He's really only their emergency.

Best still hasn't been cleared for contact and like others said we still don't know how leshoure will look post-injury. This is also Smith's first offseason where he hasn't been hurt. For such a late round pick, he should be great value.
