Who are you targeting? Teams like KC with their big DL could cause problems, will the Pack be strong again, is SF worth an early pick (round 10 and on)?

(and before you comment yes I did a search for this topic and came up empty.)

other than the usual Baltimore/Pittsburgh types, and San Fran is obviously good.... or the "hot sleepers" like Buffalo....

i like Seattle's D.

but i'll still wait on D and kicker till the last 2 rounds.

Going to sound like a homer post but....

Like the PIT defense this year. They had an abnormally low number of turnovers created in 2011 that figures to perhaps even out this year and definitely like their return game improving with some combination of Chris Rainey / Antonio Brown / Emmanuel Sanders returning kicks and punts.

Agree that KC should be improved as well.

I'm thinking the top D's of 2012 are SF, PHI, HOU, SEA, NYJ, BAL, ATL

I will never spend a mid-late round draft pick on a defense. I reserve the last two rounds for a D and Kicker. Why? Because a defense is a "team unit" and the higherarchy changes from year to year based on players and coaches. A hand full of D's stay at the top. I prefer to play the match-ups with WW defenses early in the season until I find a breakout unit. Remember, fantasy teams only start 1 D so there's a good chance half of the other guys in your league who own the Steelers, Ravens, Jets, Texans, Eagles will NOT be interested in picking up WW defenses. So by working the waiver wire, you've got a large pool of D's to work the matchups with.

I agree re playing the waiver wire, but I also think (yea, I'm a homer) KC's defense will put up some good numbers. Berry alone shd up its turnover production. I wonder about Dallas's defense. With a better secondary and their pass rush, they cd be worthwhile. Thoughts from Cowboy fans?

Don't waste a pick on D in Rd 10. Wait until the last round, and grab Buffalo or my favorite, Seattle.

If your personal life allows you the time to work the waivers on a weekly basis....try DTWW (Team Defense by Waiver Wire). Basically you're playing matchups on a weekly basis. Save your DT draft pick till the last or next-to-last round for an otherwise mediocre DT and use your round 9,10,11,12 or 13 (which ever round it would otherwise take to draft a top DT for the season) picks instead for flyers with potential upside at other positions or RB handcuffs (depending on your philosophy).

In my drafts Im eyeing Buffalo (@NYJ, KC, @CLE weeks 1-3)....Detroit (STL week 1)....Cincy (CLE, @WASH, @JAX, MIA, @CLE weeks 2-6).

Of course these picks are always open to debate. And there is always a great thread here in the tank each week to do just that...with analysis of the different matchups from a lot of diff team owners that are way smarter than me. If you keep up with it week-to-week I think you'll be surprised at how well you'll score out at that position by year end!

ding ding. I plan on taking Seattle in my money league this season either as my #1 or #2 depending how the draft shakes out.. but I entirely plan on having them on roster.

For those who have the roster spots to employ a 2 defense weekly switcharoo strategy, I suggest you guys take a look at the combination of the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills schedule this year. On paper, both of their schedules are a friggin joke. On your worst week you will be starting one of them against the 49ers.

On a side note since we're not going to.. check that.. we shouldn't see a kicker thread.. I'll be looking for Jason Hanson as my #1K and taking a flier on the Viking's rookie Blair Walsh as my #2 (distance scoring) kids got a mortar for a leg and his # of opportunities could be big.

Hanson's schedule - 2 outdoor games in Nov through Dec w/Nov 4th in Jacksonville
*Nov 04 - DET @ JAC - EverBank Field
Nov 11 - DET @ MIN - Dome
Nov 18 - GB @ DET - Dome
Nov 22 - HOU @ DET - Dome
Dec 02 - IND @ DET - Dome
*Dec 09 - DET @ GB - Lambeau Field/8:20 PM
Dec 16 - DET @ ARI - Dome
Dec 22 - ATL @ DET - Dome
Dec 30 - CHI @ DET - Dome
