Let's go ahead and get a jump on next weekend while good defensive matchups can be had without fighting the WW.

Here's your top 5.

Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo - only owned in about 32% of Yahoo leagues so if they are there grab them now before someone else realizes they are playing Arizona in week 6.

Atlanta - Solid defense this year playing at home against a putrid Oakland Raiders offense. Grab em and run like you stole it!

Miami - Playing against St Louis. The Rams only had 1 WR and he busted his shoulder. Miami has put up decent numbers fantasy wise on D/ST and this looks like one of their better matchups.

Detroit - Yeah they aren't awesome, but it's the Turnover machine Michael Vick. Always pick 6 potential.

Cincinnati going against Cleveland. I'm not a big fan of Cincy, but this is a pretty nice matchup on paper.

Of course that means you're rostering 2 defenses. I'd go Miami. Bucs would be interesting coming off a bye, at home, against Cassel.

I'll be dropping St. Louis and trying to go for Atlanta or Miami in that order.

Picked Detroit twice this year (both losses). Currently have Cincy but if ARI can't figure out how to protect the QB, it will be a long afternoon with Buffalo.

I have Dallas + Arizona in one league, Arizona + Seattle in another, and Arizona + Seattle + San Fran (start 2) in a 3rd one. I'm sitting on Arizona in my last one because I don't have an open roster spot but once Hernandez comes back and I can unload Pitta I'll look to start rostering a 2nd defense - not this week though unfortunately.

Same hopefully as of next week I can lose Bennett and I'll only have Nicks wasting space on my bench as opposed to Forte, Nicks, and Hernandez. And there's even positive reports about Nicks today. I'd be excited to be able to get back Seattle and carry an extra matchup defense on my bench.

I currently have Arizona but am worried with how putrid that offense looks. Atlanta looks like a real nice play next week.

Week 6 - Miami
Week 7 - Minny

yea, I dont like the idea of a carryign 2 defenses, especially with only 6 bench spots.

Colts.

should be available in every league, they still have a couplegood pass rushers and they get to tee off on the Jets

Leaning towards Arizona D once more. They'll be on 10 days rest this time and should fare better

yes.

But I think we were going for "should be available" options for streaming purposes. The Cardinals D shouldn't be on the wire in most (any) leagues.

Glad you opened this discussion up. I've been working hard on a decision to pick up a defense before Sunday. I've got Houston, but weeks 6 brings Green Bay, and that might be the week to carry a second d.

Pittsburgh (@ Tenn) is available in my league, as well as Miami (vs. the Rams), Detroit (@ Philly), Indy (@ Jets), Tampa (@ KC), and Buffalo (@ AZ). I can't make a firm choice out of a bunch of mediocre options vs. poor offenses. Wondering if the Dolphins are the best choice based on the home game.

I think sometimes it makes perfect sense to carry two. Don't advocate for the entire season, but if you have a "Rent a D" that you're going to drop next week, and you see that killer match up sitting on the wire, and you have some scrub WR that will never see the field for you, why not.
