Didn't see this one coming, and I'm already thin at RB. What happened? And who is his backup, is he even worth picking up? Tasty matchup vs the Jets this week

Vick Ballard, and I'm more interested in him than Powell and Green.

:censor: RBs dropping like flies

Might be forced to play Ballard in a flex bind thanks to Benson, Brown, and Williams all on the same team :F

Not too impressed by his YPC.

per Rotoworld

Donald Brown underwent knee surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
Brown tore some cartilage in his knee on his final touch of the Colts' Week 5 upset of the Packers. It's not a major injury and has been cleaned out by a simple scope. Remember that Trent Richardson underwent a similar procedure just a month before the season started and was ready to rock in Week 1. Vick Ballard will start Sunday's game against the Jets and Delone Carter will mix in as well. If Mewelde Moore (ankle) can suit up, he'll have a role too.

was starting Brown as my only available RB...just went and grabbed Ballard to start :F

Whew I picked the right time to be browsing the forums.

Will pick up Ballard and consider putting him in instead of Leshoure.

Hurting at RB this week what with losing Benson and Forte on bye.

Grabbed Ballard in my main league. 4.56 in the 40, decent speed while playing at MS State.

Scouting report said postdraft: A compactly-built runner, Ballard is expected to be a between-the-tackles type of runner for Indy. Hard-nosed runner who should push for playing time.

And updated 9/2012: RB Vick Ballard continues to impress. The former Mississippi State standout has displayed an ability to bounce plays outside and find yardage. He has also pass blocked well when called upon, although that is an area where he to continue to develop. Ballard has become a fast favorite of Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.

Can he take over the starting job? Good player in college, great match-ups over the next few weeks, great opportunity because we all know what Donald Brown brings to the table.

Just dropped Alex Green for Ballard...had him as a deep sleeper before the year start. Hopefully he can explode with his opportunity.

He does have a good matchup this week, so he might be alright, but he couldn't start over Donald Brown. That might tell you how good he really is. He could be an alright bye week guy, but not too much more I'd say.

They will prob give Delone Carter a little work also.

Same here, just grabbed Vick 2.0 off the wire. Had Brown pencilled in and would have had to start Chris Johnson who I just got for peanuts. Dodged a bullet perhaps.

This kind of thinking is completely incorrect. Or have we forgotten EVERY backup EVER who has come in to play better than the starter?

See, most recently, Demarco Murray/Felix Jones.

Also, Donald Brown isn't exactly Arian Foster.

That's exactly what I'm saying is that Brown isn't Foster. Also Ballard is a rookie. Most rookies seem to struggle on pass protection, which is important for a passing team like Indy. I think Vick 2.0 will be okay, but I don't think he will have the same stats that Brown would have had. All I'm saying.
