Draft Analysis
Round 9, Pick 2
Positives Derrick Mason is a solid wide receive who could easily start for my team each week. Negatives He doesn't have an established quarterback anymore. Also he's 34 years old. Draft Strategy I'm just filling out the bye weeks at this point in the draft. The starters are selected. I'll be looking for a few hidden gems and a couple of guys who have strong upside. Round 10, Pick 10
Positives Mason found a time machine last year and returned to his 100-catch, 1,000-yard receiving former self. His role won't change this season, but the players and the offense will be different. Mason will still be the go-to guy on third down as he continues to prove he can get open at 34 years old. Negatives Without McNair at QB, Mason's value will take a hit. The new wide open offense is better suited for Mark Clayton than Mason, so Mason will need to fight for his receptions. Expecting a repeat performance of last season is unreasonable, but 70 catches for 700-800 yards seems realistic. Draft Strategy Imagine five years ago with a WR corps of Harrison, Holt, and Mason. Just put my name on the trophy now! Of course it's 2008, and none of them at playing at the same level. Mason is the #1 WR heading into the season and grabbing a #1 WR was my goal in this round.
