Strength of schedule is calculated from the opponents projected fantasy points allowed for the RB position. The best rating is +16 which gives the player the advantage against the defense and indicates an easy opponent, the worst rating is -16 which gives the defense the advantage and indicates a tough opponent.
Injury and elderly competition lead to the unwrapping of one of 08's most surprising superstars. Once thought to be a simple change-of-pace back, Steve Slaton proved to be anything but, as he collected 1,659 yards from scrimmage and double digit touchdowns. Slaton displayed great vision and patience rarely seen in a rook. Houston's passing options will keep defenses honest. Defensive coordinators will be reluctant to stack the box, creating running room for the elusive back. His receiving skills and home run capability make him a dangerous player in space. It will be difficult to live up to his 08 debut, but an impressive 09 encore is in order. The Texans are looking for a back to spell Slaton from time to time. Houston did little to back up their starter, and the supporting cast is average at best. Still, the situation is worth monitoring. If Houston opts to go with a short-yardage/goal-line back, Slaton's TD potential could be compromised.
Because they are shorthanded at defensive back, the Texans are bringing in veteran cornerbacks Deltha O'Neal, Mike McKenzie and Jason Webster for tryouts Thursday. With Dunta Robinson missing camp because of a contract dispute and Jacques Reeves and ...
The Houston Chronicle reports that the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with quarterback Rex Grossman. The deal is for one season and a minimum of $745,000. He joins Dan Orlovsky and Alex Brink as backups to Matt Schaub....
Texans tight end Owen Daniels has become the second player to skip organized team activities this offseason because of a contract dispute with the franchise's front office. Daniels' agent, Alan Herman, said he and his client were told they would ...
Steve Slaton's 2008 season wasn't just nice. It was very nice. So nice that it is understandable to look at his production and project greatness for the Texans' second-year tailback. Slaton, who led the AFC in yards from scrimmage as a rookie, ...
If the Texans are unable to re-sign cornerback Dunta Robinson, it will change their philosophy entering the draft. Rather than pursuing a defensive end who can provide a pass rush opposite Mario Williams with their first-round pick, general manager ...

Draft Analysis
Round 12, Pick 9
Positives The Houston RB situation is currently a mess with lots of old RB's, hurt RB's and journeyman RB's. Slaton has looked ok in the pre-season and may have a shot at starting later this season. Negatives Lots of RB's in Houston. May be seen as just a third-down type RB. Draft Strategy A flyer pick. Rumours about Ahman Green possibly being cut, and the ineffectiveness of other Houston RB's led me to make this pick. It was worth a shot late in 12th, and there is no harm done if it doesn't work out because I've already got my starting lineup and most backups in place. (Contributed by: Aussie)
Round 12, Pick 9
Positives He's the opposite of all of the other RB's in town. He's fast. He's young. He can cut and burn. He's really the only RB in Houston with any sort of upside and as a late round gamble, I think I like him. Negatives Youth and inexperience. Some say size makes him simply a change-of-pace back. Draft Strategy Hopefully I will never have to start Steve Slaton, but if I do, I feel like he's a threat to score when he gets the ball. This is simply an upside pick. I could have gone for Ahman or Chris Brown or Chris Taylor, but they all make me ill. (Contributed by: Stankweasels)
Round 14, Pick 1
Positives Steve Slaton is a great fit for Houston's zone blocking schemes, and will immediately compete for third-down duties in the Texans RBBC. Negatives Slaton struggled early in OTAs with fumbles and this continued early in training camp. Durability is also a concern for Slaton as well as his size. Draft Strategy With question marks surrounding Ahman Green's status to make the team, and Chrissy Brown's health earlier in camp, Slaton looks to be in the best position to take advantage of the opportunity and see playing time as a rookie.
Slaton's speed, ability to run pass routes and great hands should make him an adequate fantasy running back in the future, especially in PPR leagues. He is not as talented as most of the backs in this year’s rookie class; however, his skill-set matches up positively with the Texans offensive schemes as evidenced by his first two preseason showings.
