Fantasy Analysis

The marriage of Palmer and pass-happy head coach/offensive play-caller Bruce Arians didn't produce the super-gaudy numbers that many fantasy owners had predicted. Although Palmer set a new career high in passing yards and amassed some other impressive numbers, he closed out 2013 as just the 17th-best fantasy quarterback. Palmer endured some early-season growing pains production-wise while playing in a new scheme with a new collection of receivers. However, he improved down the stretch, averaging a solid 295.1 passing yards and 1.8 scoring strikes per contest from Week 9 through Week 17. Although the 34-year-old Palmer has shown signs of slightly declining arm strength, the pocket passer is expected to remain the Cardinals' starting quarterback for 2014. The immobile Palmer was sacked 41 times last season, which ranked 8th among all quarterbacks, so he is an injury risk. Palmer's top-two receivers - a subtly declining Larry Fitzgerald and the up-and-coming Michael Floyd - are both returning. Ted Ginn is expected to replace Andre Roberts (Redskins) in the slot, which is a downgrade, but Andre Ellington is expected to have an increased role as a receiver. Look for rookie Troy Niklas to emerge as the starter at tight end, but that won't make him fantasy relevant. While a small uptick in Palmer's production seems likely, you should consider him a low upside fantasy QB2.

Passing: 3760 Yards, 24 TD, 17 INT.
Rushing: 25 Yards, 0 TD.
