Draft Analysis
Round 7, Pick 3
Positives
Despite the many questions surroundnig him, Plummer was signed to big time money last year and handed the reigns in Denver. 2003 was not a stellar season, injury wiping out a few games in the beginning if what should have been good developmental time with his new team. I know that a certain owner of this fantasy site is always leery of selecting quarterbacks, no matter what, their first year in a system so hopefully you did not go with Plummer as your #1. Having said that, obviously then 2004 will be Jake the Snake's second year with the Broncos. This is sounding like a broken record, but Plummer is another guy I'm seeing as undervalued in the fantasy world and to borrow a phrase, has tremendous upside. Though Sharpe and Portis are both gone, Denver always seems to find a way to plug in guys so the pieces are still in place for Plummer to have a very productive fantasy season.
Negatives
Plummer has never really stepped it up from both a fantasy perspective and in the real for that matter. In fact, this may be the last chance that he has to show that he is worth all the money Denver sent his way in signing him last year. Shannon Sharpe is gone, and the Broncos are again banking on a different running back becoming a fantasy stud (well, they may not be banking on that, but we are). Many questions have to be overcome here, but in round seven I think we're ok.
Draft Strategy
If the giggling in the back of the room can quiet down we can get down to business here. Yes, this is the guy that I targetted as my starter at the beginning of this draft. That became more solidified as the bye weeks played them selves out (so far I have selected seven guys all on a separate bye week without sacrificing talent, which for a league without free agency is huge). As I had hoped with my last pick, Plummer made it past the two guys behind me. There is a QB run coming, and as I mentioned in my last discussion, with no free agency I want at least one guy that is somewhat entrenched as the starter. Plummer rounds out what I believe to be a decent team right now. Good balance with two top RBs, three high WR selections, and one of the big three TEs. In fact, the more I think about it, that TE selection may end up being my best selection since I won't have to waste two or three late round picks trying to scrap something together at the TE position. The balance of the current roster allows me to go in any direction with my next picks so I'm not forced into a certain position, which other teams might be able to sniff out and exploit like I have with these last two picks. At some point I may even think about getting another RB, but maybe not. (Contributed by: doug_coutts)

Round 8, Pick 7
Positives

Negatives

Draft Strategy
I've already entered in the positive and negatives surrounding Plummer. Again, this is a guy I expect to outperform fantasy expectations this year, simply for the fact that this will be his second year in the system. As for this draft, the RB run continues and I see no reason to expand upon what I have right now. Great opportunity at QB to get another quality player here, which may prove to be key in that the QB position more than any other is subject to injury. (Contributed by: doug_coutts)

Round 9, Pick 5
Positives
After pushing his QB rating into the 90s in his first season in Denver, Plummer is entering his second year in a system that has made some iffy QBs look very good (i.e. 2000 Brian Griese). No more Clinton Portis means that Plummer will shoulder more of the burden on offense. Mobile enough to score on the rollout in the red zone, which is huge for this scoring system. Scored 18 TDs in 11 games, which prorates to 26 for a complete season.
Negatives
No more Clinton Portis means that Plummer will shoulder more of the burden on offense. Hasn't proven to be the most durable QB. Turns the ball over frequently. No more Shannon Sharpe. It's far from clear that Ashley Lelie is developing like the Denver staff expects him to.
Draft Strategy
Anytime you take a player like Vick, you've got to secure a solid backup. I like Plummer to take the next step this season and become a true franchise QB. Jake has always been a great talent, and now that he has the tools and coaching staff around him, he's becoming a good NFL QB. Another thing that factors into this decision is that one team still doesn't have a QB1, and I see a large value drop after Plummer. (Contributed by: Agenda42)
