Draft Analysis
Round 11, Pick 4
Positives He could start the season as the #1 RB in Green Bay depending on how rookie Brandon Jackson develops. Or get significant playing time during the season if the rookie flops or fades. RBBC is also a possibility, which would make him useful in a pinch. Negatives Right now he has a knee injury which could set him back in the competition with Jackson. Didn't do much last year. Brandon Jackson is the future of the Packers, so their patience with Morency will be short. Draft Strategy In round 11 I was happy to to take a chance on a guy that could get the majority of the carries for his team. Even if that guy is Morency. (Contributed by: mf)
Round 9, Pick 7
Positives He is listed as the starting running back, and has a head start grasping the complicated Green Bay offense over his rookie competition. And he can play, having shown flashes last year. He should hold the job, even if it is more for his ability to pick up the blitz and not miss a blocking assignment. Negatives He is nothing special, an average RB with experience in the system. But his team did not spend a 2nd round pick on a new RB for no reason. If the kid picks up the system (reports out of camp say that is slow to develop) he could replace Morency at some point. A minor knee injury is keeping him out of the pre-season thus far too, but that might actually help him, as the camp reports indicate the rookie is not getting it done in Morency's absence. Draft Strategy If Morency falters, he will at least have the job until mid-season, and if he is performing well, beyond that. Either way he is decent bye week coverage, which is all I need barring injury. And lets face it, you suffer injury in these leagues, you are pretty much not winning. So depth is always secondary to talent at the starting positions, which is why I stockpiled WRs who may occasionally start for me over RBs who won't more than twice if my team stays healthy. Round 10, Pick 2
Positives Will have the opportunity to start if he can get healthy before the end of camp. Brandon Jackson doesn't appear ready to start right away. Negatives Hasn't proven he can be the starter. Draft Strategy A risk/reward play in the 10th round. I have three RBs that I feel comfortable, if Morency pans out, he could help me in bye weeks and injury situations. (Contributed by: checo446)
