Fantasy Analysis

The ship for Rudi may have sailed. Age is not on his side, he's 3rd on the depth chart. Look elsewhere.

Average Draft Position (ADP) Tracker
Draft Analysis
Round 2, Pick 9
Positives
Hey, his name is Rudi, and I loved the movie. Excellent offensive line, starting RB, decent WR's to keep the defenses honest. Should be a featured back this year. Got rid of Corey Dillon to focus on him
Negatives
Short track record on handling starting RB duties, Chris Perry was drafted to back him up, and could challenge for time later in the season
Draft Strategy
Always need to have 2 solid RBS (Duece and Rudi). Wanted either Moss or Harrison, but both were gone. Don't want to gamble on upside too much in the first couple round, rather going for predictable solid seasons. Time to gamble is in the later rounds on WR's that could blossom. Round 2, Pick 2
Positives
Rudi showed last year that he can handle the starting RB job in Cincy. He showed enugh that C Dillon was shown the door. In the last 8 games of 2003 he rushed for 697 yds with a 4.91 ypc average and 6 TD's. Those are solid numbers!
Negatives
The big "?" with Rudi is, "can he do it for a full season?" He put up very solid numbers the second half of last year, but most would say he is still very unproven. Maybe even the Bengals are not sure about him. Just look at who they drafted in the first round this year (C Perry) and the fact that they only were willing to give him a one year deal. Was I crazy to draft him as my #1? Maybe?
Draft Strategy
I Had to go RB here and I had to take the guy I felt would have the best shot at being the clear-cut #1 guy on his team. For me that was Rudi. All the other guys available have more ?'s than Rudi. I know most rank him lower, but I have to go with my gut here. (Contributed by: Rush)

Round 2, Pick 8
Positives
Rudi came out of nowhere last year. After a couple of years with few opportunities, this mid-round draft pick lit up the AFC when he finally got the chance. He's surprisingly quick for his size and figures to get plenty of touches with the Bengals giving Palmer the chance to start. He should be adequate for this draft position.
Negatives
He is not a proven pass catcher. In this league, a point per reception is quite valuable. The Bengals took Chris Perry with their first round pick. It remains to be seen if Rudi loses touches to Perry on 3rd Down and other passing situations.
Draft Strategy
There were a couple of other guys I preferred at this position. Knowing that there are numerous New Englanders associated with the site, I assumed that Corey Dillon would be gone. Indeed he was. I had a thought that Travis Henry may drop to this draft position. I figured he would be a great pick at 2.08. Domanick Davis was the other player I would hope was here. Alas, snatched one pick before me. That's the way it goes. All in all, not excited, but satisfied with Rudi Johnson at this spot. (Contributed by: Sentient_Beings)
