Draft Analysis
Round 10, Pick 10
Positives
San Francisco got enough of a taste of Rattay's potential last year that they not only let Jeff Garcia walk, but they didn't bring in any insurance should Rattay prove that he can't do the job. In other words, the job is his to lose with very little, if any competition in his way. Aside of the injury situation (discussed below), the sky is really the limit for this guy. He did well for the couple games he played last year and San Francisco is committed to him for this year.
Negatives
Any time the words "severely torn" and "abductor muscle" are put together, that's not a good thing. Add to that "in his left groin", well, that just doesn't sound like much fun. I mean, I wear button fly since I don't even like a zipper down in that area, never mind a knife cutting in there for some surgery. Shudder.... Anyway, the 49ers are optimistic that Rattay will be ready to go for training camp after surgury, but surely they will be cautious. This could lead to Rattay getting off to a slow start, or at worst, some time on the bench to heal a little more.
Draft Strategy
I like how things have gone so far, a couple kickers and some D going off the board. That's nice to see. Now's the time where I need to line things up for the rest of the draft. Prior to this pick, my plan is for 2 more QB, 2 kickers, and 2 defenses. That leaves me with one open pick, which I'm not sure where it will go yet. I might get another TE, I might not. I'll save that discussion for another time. Right now, the starting QB ranks are drawing thin so I take one here (Anish probably will take one) and likely another on the way back since a few more are sure to go. I'd rather not have to take a chance on a guy like Eli Manning, Gannon, etc. I hope to be able to get another of the new starters (Boller, Grossman, Palmer) instead. (Contributed by: doug_coutts)

Round 13, Pick 6
Positives

Negatives

Draft Strategy
I already hilighted Rattay's positives and negatives previously...as for this draft, QB is a position that some teams seem to be completely eschewing. Round 13 and many owners are still riding with only one, surely there will be a QB run soon. My strategy when waiting to grab my first QB (round 7 in this draft, Tom Brady) is to go with three at the position. Plummer is also in the fold, but the opportunity right now in the draft to get a third QB that is near certain to be the starter is too much to pass up here. In fact, I'm a little surprised that there are still more than a few starters still on the board. If this keeps up, I may take a fourth. QB is a position where guys get injured so depth is key at this position since you don't want to be relying on the weekly waiver wire to find your starting fantasy QB. (Contributed by: doug_coutts)
