Has scored one touchdown since Week 4; not surprisingly, Gates isn't a sustainable source of fantasy production any longer. With the emergence of young Ladarius Green, it appears Philip Rivers has other viable options whereas Gates used to the featured receiving threat in this offense.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. In 2010, Antonio Gates was the number two tight end in fantasy football. In 2011 that number dropped to seventh. Last year Gates dropped to 12th. Now 33 years old, Gates has missed 10 games over the past three seasons. Age spares no one in the National Football League, and if the downward spiral of the last three seasons continues in 2013 (there’s no reason to think it won’t) then Gates’ days as a fantasy starter are over.
