Strength of Schedule
Strength of schedule is calculated from the opponents projected fantasy points allowed for the RB position. The best rating is +16 which gives the player the advantage against the defense and indicates an easy opponent, the worst rating is -16 which gives the defense the advantage and indicates a tough opponent.
Fantasy Analysis
Mendenhall looks like a solid bounce-back candidate, assuming he can beat out the injury-prone-and-disappointing Ryan Williams for the Cardinals’ No. 1 tailback job. Forget about the paltry numbers from Mendenhall’s 2012 season. He was coming off ACL surgery, struggling with an Achilles’ tendon injury and feuding with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. The 26-year-old Mendenhall, a former first-round pick (2008), is now close to two years removed from reconstructive knee surgery and already knows new Arizona head coach Bruce Arians’ offense. Arians directed the Steelers offense during Mendenhall’s productive 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons, and the Cardinals’ field general prefers using a featured back over a committee backfield. Mendenhall has good size (5-foot-10, 225 pounds), 4.45 speed and solid receiving ability, so he has obvious three-down upside. However, Arizona’s offensive line play is a worry. Last season, the Cardinals, as a team, averaged 75.2 rushing yards per game and 3.4 yards per carry, which were both league-low marks. First-round pick Jonathan Cooper should help shore up the blocking. If all the breaks go Mendenhall’s way and his line can block at least competently, “Mendy” has fantasy RB2 sleeper value.
