Season Projections
After topping 100 tackles two years ago Mason Foster's numbers were down in that category in 2013, but a pair of pick-sixes salvaged a 30th-place finish in Fantasy Sharks Default IDP Scoring. The reason for the dip was mainly Foster's leaving the field in passing situations, but as Pat Yasinkas of ESPN reports new head coach Lovie Smith has given Foster defensive playcalling responsibilities in 2014. 'The switch is being made,' Yasinkas said, 'because coach Lovie Smith prefers to have his middle linebacker calling the plays. That likely means the Bucs are counting on Foster to be an every-down linebacker.' Struggles in coverage have hampered Foster in that regard in the past, but as a three-down player a career year (including IDP LB2 production) could be in the offing, making Foster an intriguing option as a later-round upside pick.
