2012 Wild Card Weekend

Happy New Year from the Brew Crew Corner! I hope everyone had a good holiday, and hopefully you celebrated the new year with a championship in your fantasy league. Like every season, 2011 had plenty of surprises and disappointments throughout the year. Some surprises were good, such as Cam Newton finishing as the No. 1 quarterback in Shark Leagues, while some were bad such as those who drafted earlier in the year and selected Peyton Manning as their starting quarterback. Some disappointments are a major blow to your fantasy team right out of the gate, such as losing Jamaal Charles in Week 1, while other disappointments happen by having a starter that like Peyton Hillis who battles injuries all season and was inconsistent when he did play. He finished the season 36th among running backs overall.

Matt Flynn – 31/44, 480 yards, 6 TD, 1 INT. If you were an Aaron Rodgers owner and picked up Flynn because Rodgers was out, you were rewarded handsomely on championship week. Jordy Nelson owners benefited the most as Nelson caught three of the six touchdowns. Keep Flynn on your radar for the 2012 season as he is a free agent.

Jordy Nelson – 9 receptions, 162 yards, 3 TD. Nelson has been a blessing for owners all season. He finishes the season fourth among wide receivers, averaging 17.4 fantasy points a game. Nelson put in a fantasy performance for the ages.

Calvin Johnson – 11 receptions, 244 yards, 1 TD. In the same game that Jordy Nelson was putting up big numbers, Johnson was having a monster game as well. Johnson put up his second 210-plus yard game in the last three weeks, and his totals over the fantasy playoffs were ridiculous. He averaged 187 yards per game with four touchdowns during the final three weeks of the season. Johnson was clearly the fantasy playoff Most Valuable Player.
