DRAFT SCIENCE: Best Snake-Draft Position in 2020

It’s a long ways off but we’ve run some numbers and wanted to share an overview of where the best position is to be this year in a standard fantasy 12-team snake-draft. We’ve done analysis in the past on season results from all the draft positions and over the years we’ve come to learn that even in a snake-draft, where in theory the idea of the snake is to even out the odds, earlier is still better. There is almost always an advantage to going first. Since many leagues operate in such a way where team owners one way or another get to select their draft position, if that is an option in your league, here’s the order to call them out in to give you the best chance of success in 2020:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 6, 10, 9, 7, 11, 12

If you like to be sly, and who doesn’t, trade your entire draft from the 7-position with the owner from the 8-position and enjoy the free boost in overall value. 1-5 though, are still where you want to be this year – you’ll see the most value from those positions.
