Against the Odds – Week 6

Vinnie managed to further improve his record among four-star (and higher) picks, last week. This week’s picks are less about “sure things” and feature teams on the road, some favored and some not.

Miami

@ Houston (-3):

Miami

destroyed both the Patriots and Chargers behind an innovative offense that features the many talents of Ronnie Brown, an unrelenting defense and strong coaching.

Houston, on the other hand, hasn’t shown much with the exception of one good game from Matt Schaub and some nice running from Steve Slaton. The Texans will be motivated to notch that elusive first win of ’08, but the Dolphins will have them outmatched on Sunday.

Gimme Miami plus the points!

Green Bay @ Seattle (-2.5):

Get ready for a shootout here as neither team seems to field much of a defense these days. There’s always something to be said for the Seahawks playing at home, but

Green Bay simply has much more firepower on the offensive side — assuming Aaron Rodgers can stay out of harm’s way. The Packers really need a win in order to be competitive in the NFC North standings; I don’t see ’em getting beaten by a field goal or more.

Gimme Green Bay plus the points!

New York Giants

@ Cleveland (+8.5):

Will the Dawgs be able to stymie this Giants’ winning streak on their own shores of

Lake Erie? Derek Anderson has been a shell of the quarterback who played so well at this point in ’07. It’s striking how many ways

New York can score against good defenses, given how poorly the Browns defense has been playing. Smells like a lopsided fifth Giants victory to me!

Gimme New York minus the points!

Chicago @ Atlanta (+2.5):

The Falcons stall when pitted against teams built to make life hard for opposing running backs. This plays into

Chicago‘s favor, and now the featured player in

Atlanta‘s passing game, Roddy White, is banged up and may not be able to go. Led by Matt Forte and Kyle Orton, Da Bears are bringing a vastly improved offense every weekend, one that the below average Falcons defense will be hard-pressed to shut down.

Gimme Chicago minus the points!
