Audibles – Week 11 (Opportunity knocks)

When the Indianapolis Colts opened the season this year, folks were expecting
Darrius Heyward-Bey

to be a big part of the offense. The Colts even expected him to play in base packages and thought he would do well in their system. Heck, there were fantasy experts that were looking for a big year from DHB. That ship has long since sailed. The Colts were using DHB and
Reggie Wayne

in base packages but the offense lacked any explosion.

Once they figured out that
T.Y. Hilton

was the spark they needed,
Reggie Wayne

had a season ending injury. They brought in Lavon Brazill who had a PED suspension that sidelined him for four games and activated
Griff Whalen

from the practice squad. Whalen sustained a concussion and Brazill has yet to make an impact. These circumstances have opened the door for
Da’Rick Rogers

Da’Rick Rogers

WR Indianapolis Colts

Rogers has a less than desirable off the field history that goes back quite a ways. He reportedly failed three drug tests at the University of Tennessee and was suspended indefinitely. Rogers went on to play at Tennessee Tech for a single season and notched 63 receptions for 893 yards and 10 TDs.

Big deal right? He also set a school record with 18 receptions and 303 yards in a single game. While I know that Tennessee Tech’s competition isn’t nearly the best in the country, those numbers are still an indication that there is something special here. He did play against good competition in the SEC, and has the skill set that you look for in a receiver.

What I see (Skill set)

Size 6’2″ 217 pounds (prototypical NFL size)

Speed 4.56 ( fast enough to compete)

Vertical 39.50 inches (fade routes anyone?)

Great ball skills (yep, I used the word great. Watch some film.)

Rogers plays much bigger than he is. His inside receiving skills are among the best I have seen. He uses his body to establish position much like Chicago Bears receiver,
Brandon Marshall

. If you watch film of Rogers, you will be
pleasantly surprised. Rogers will go up and get the football in double coverage and makes the tough catch look easy. I have seen enough to know that this kid is indeed the real deal. I know that he possesses all the intangibles to be a solid receiver if he can stay out of trouble.

I believe that he is on the right track and that he will make the most of this opportunity. The Colts have nothing to lose as Heyward-Bey has not been the player that they thought.
I wondered at one point if he would be cut.

I believe with every fiber of my being that
Da’Rick Rogers

is going to surprise here for the rest of this year and is a solid dynasty add. Coach Chuck Pagano indicated that he deserves to play because he’s worked hard and has done everything that they have asked. I followed Rogers’ college career closely and hoped that he could get his life in order. He has the talent and just needs to make the most of this opportunity which I can’t wait to see.

I did add him in my dynasty league.

Indianapolis is the ideal situation for Rogers. The staff believes in him. He has a solid Quarterback in
Andrew Luck

and is a right fit puzzle piece for this offense as a tough, inside pass receiver. This is currently what is missing in Indianapolis.
