DFS GEMS: Week 14

QB Sam Darnold NYJ

Ideally, I’d like to spend down at quarterback this week and Darnold could present a nice opportunity given how this game stacks up. Both teams are soft on the defensive side of the ball and all of Darnold’s weapons have great matchups, including Le’Veon Bell who has 55 receptions on the year.

DFS GEMS: Week 13

Taylon Smith DAL tackles Saquon Barkley NYG

He’s been less than stellar of late with his last big game coming all the way back in Week 8. Nevertheless, the volume remains and this matchup is entirely too juicy to pass on. Barkley’s combination of volume, talent and matchup could easily give him a Top 3 finish in Week 13.

DFS GEMS: Week 12

RB Chris Carson SEA

Failing to reach double-digit DraftKings points in only one contest this season, Carson has been one of the most consistent players in the business. He draws a very interesting matchup this week due to his position as an integral piece of one of the league’s most prolific offenses.

DFS GEMS: Week 11

WR_DeAndre_Hopkins_HOU_1

He’s going to be tricky to fit into the budget but if you can make the right sacrifices DeAndre Hopkins is a solid bet this week. It’s a good matchup in a potential shootout and Hopkins’ target dominance has made his price tag worth the investment.

DFS GEMS: Week 10

RB_Derrick_Henry_TEN_1

In a high scoring affair, against a bottom-3 rush defense, You’ve got to start a high volume back like Derrick Henry. The news of Mahomes practicing in full Wednesday should push the spread out a good bit so hopefully, the implied negative game script for Tennessee will keep ownership down.

DFS GEMS: Week 9

QB_Russell_Wilson_SEA_1

He certainly is the most expensive quarterback on the slate this week but all indications imply he should be well worth the extra coin spent! Wilson is Top 10 in completion percentage and Top 15 in pass attempts on the year - that’s a solid combo knowing the ceiling you get with Wilson.

DFS GEMS: Week 8

RB Leonard Fournette Jacsonville Jaguars

We’re going back to the well with Leonard Fournette again this week but you can’t deny his volume! His 144 carries on the season are now tops among all running backs, league–wide.

DFS GEMS: Week 7

DB Janoris Jenkins NYG

It’s a great matchup for running backs with Cincinnati averaging the most points allowed to opposing backs. Given that matchup and his volume, Fournette is likely to draw significant ownership but that’s not a problem as every Millionaire Maker lineup since Week 2 has featured at least one player with 20% ownership.

DFS GEMS: Week 6

RB Le'Veon Bell New York Jets

Lost in how bad the Jets have been sans Sam Darnold is how quietly useful Le'Veon Bell has been! He has 27 receptions on 32 targets this season along with 71 rushing attempts through four games. A running back that’s south of $7,000 who is averaging more than 24 touches per game is pretty hard to come by.

DFS GEMS: Week 5

QB_Matt_Ryan_ATL_1

For as bad as Matt Ryan the NFL quarterback has been, he’s been a competent quarterback for fantasy purposes. He’s surpassed 20 DraftKings points in three out of four contests this season and he scored 19.7 points the one contest in which he missed the mark.

DFS GEMS: Week 4

TE Darren Waller OAK

Waller has more receptions than any tight end in football through three weeks. I do expect that to balance out a bit at some point but Week 4 does not appear to be that point. Indianapolis has been Bottom 3 against opposing tight ends in 2018 and got scorched by Austin Hooper for 66 yards and two scores in Week 3.

DFS GEMS: Week 3

WR_Marvin_Jones_DET_1

The matchup is strong at Philadelphia against a defense that was absolutely smoked by the Atlanta receivers in Week 2. There’s risk here but with the field likely to flock to Golladay, Marvin Jones makes for a strong chance to separate from the field if he has a big game.

DFS GEMS: Week 2

RB Alvin Kamara NOS

Kamara is certainly one of the more expensive backs on the main slate in Week 2 but he's a full $1,000 less than Saquon Barkley - I'll take that discount! There’s no telling how this one will go but Vegas expects a shootout. No matter what happens, we know AK41 is game flow-proof.

DFS GEMS: Week 17

RB Aaron Jones and QB Aaron Rodgers Green Bay Packers

Rodgers started last week with nothing to gain out of pure leadership. That is the kind of guy you want playing for you, fantasy or not! He took that character opportunity and turned it into a ridiculous 45.9 fantasy points as Green Bay snuck past the New York Jets.

DFS GEMS: Week 16

QB_Dak_Prescott_DAL_3

Tampa Bay is averaging 27.4 points per game (DK) on the season and has given up at least one touchdown to enemy passers in every single contest this year. Dak Prescott had a down week at Indianapolis in Week 15 but had been playing fine football in the previous weeks, spurned by the arrival of Amari Cooper.

DFS GEMS: Week 15

WR_DeAndre_Hopkins_HOU_1

Hopkins is an obviously elite talent who dominates his teams’ target share, owning nearly 49% of all wide receiver targets among Texans wideouts. The game doesn’t have an impressive over/under at 41.5 but the Jets are best attacked via the wideouts so the offense should continue to run through Hopkins this week.

DFS GEMS: Week 14

QB_Carson_Wentz_PHI_1

The idea this week is to save a bit of budget so we can spend it elsewhere and Wentz not only gives us a solid spot to save this week but he also might get us a quarterback with moderate ownership in GPP’s.

DFS GEMS: Week 13

RB Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs

You pretty much need a piece of the Kansas City offense every week if you want to secure your spot atop the GPP landscape. At $7,800 (DK) Kareem Hunt makes the most sense this week. Kansas City is set to massacre reeling Oakland and there will be plenty of work for Hunt in this contest.

DFS GEMS: Week 12

WR_Julio_Jones_ATL_1

The Atlanta at New Orleans tilt will have massive fantasy implications in Week 12 boasting the weeks highest over/under which is now up to 60... the fact that the Saints are 13 point favorites only implies a positive game script for Julio Jones and company.

DFS GEMS: Week 11

Taylon Smith DAL tackles Saquon Barkley NYG

Barkley is another guy we’ll need to spend up for if we want him, and this week against Tampa Bay, you’ll probably want him in a few lineups! Tampa Bay ranks in the Bottom 10 against running backs this season and has given up multiple touchdowns to the position in 4-of-9 contests this season.

DFS GEMS: Week 10

TE_Greg_Olsen_CAR_1

Back-to-back double-digit fantasy outings and a matchup against a Bottom 5 team against opposing tight ends is typically a recipe for success. When you consider the dearth of viable tight end options thus far this season, that pushes Greg Olsen into must-start territory.

DFS GEMS: Week 9

QB Kirk Cousins MIN

Another week, another great matchup for Kirk Cousins. He’s playing at a Top 5 level in season-long fantasy and hasn’t posted less than 17.5 DraftKings points since the Week 3 debacle against Buffalo. With a floor that safe and sky-high ceiling, Cousins makes a ton of sense coming in just below the top tier of quarterback pricing this week.

DFS GEMS: Week 8

RB Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs

Hunt was sensational last week and I want to thank him for giving me a Top 4 cash in a Week 7 GPP! This week presents another great opportunity for success as the Broncos and their 8th friendliest defense for opposing running backs visit Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs could score from any angle, at any point, so there is some risk that Hunt might get left out of the scoring party simply by bad luck.

DFS GEMS: Week 7

QB Mitchell Trubisky CHI

New England is currently allowing an average of 19.5 points per game to opposing passers, good for 10th friendliest in the league. This looks like a good spot for Mitch Trubisky to keep building on his success.

DFS GEMS: Week 6 – Hurricane Edition

RB Marshawn Lynch OAK

If you are looking for a solid back this week, look no further than Lynch. He isn’t getting traditional workhorse numbers but he is absolutely dominating red zone looks with 19 on the year so far. To put it in perspective that is 34% of the team total not including the quarterback position and more than all of the wide receivers combined.

DFS GEMS: Week 5

WR_Philip_Rivers_SDC_1

This one has shootout written all over it! The over/under has risen to 53.5 with L.A. possessing a 29.5 point implied total. Rivers should have ample opportunity to put up points against this middling pass defense so while he is one of the higher priced quarterbacks this week, he should easily provide good ROI.

DFS GEMS: Week 4

RB_Melvin_Gordon_SDC_2

The Chargers have a 28.5 point implied total and shouldn’t need to pass much in the second half meaning plenty of work for Gordon in addition to his usual clip of receptions. The only fear here is that the 49er’s don’t keep pace and Gordon gets rested. That could easily happen here so lets hope Gordon hits pay dirt early to get the day started.

DFS GEMS: Week 3

QB_Matthew_Stafford_DET_1

I fully expect the Lions to get baptized by the Patriots Sunday night but along the way Stafford should have ample opportunity to put up some decent fantasy points. He comes in at a nice price and is facing an expected positive game flow as 6.5 underdogs to the Patriots this week.

DFS VALUE PLAYS: Week 17

QB_Matthew_Stafford_DET_1

I almost went with Stafford’s opponent this week Brett Hundley at $4,800 but Stafford feels safer with all of his weapons intact. The Packers have allowed 14 touchdowns to opposing passers since Week 12 including two games where they gave up a ridiculous four touchdowns to the enemy quarterback!

PLAYERS TO TARGET: Week 17

RB_Kenyan_Drake_MIA_1

Drake is Miami’s best chance at victory in Week 17, which is just fine given the matchup. Buffalo has been absolutely hammered by opposing rushers on the year, including a 23.3-point outing (points per reception leagues) allowed to Drake in Week 15.

DFS VALUE PLAYS: Week 15

WR_Demaryius_Thomas_DEN_1

Who would ever thought it would be good for a team’s wide receiving corps to have Trevor Siemian back under center but that does appear to be the case when it comes to the Broncos. Demaryius Thomas had one of his best games of the season in Week 14 posting 8 receptions for 93 yards and a score.

WR_Larry_Fitzgerald_ARI_1

Aside from an expectedly sub-par outing against the Jaguars in Week 12, Larry Fitzgerald doesn’t have less than 70 yards receiving or less than 12 PPR points in the last five weeks. Despite his age, despite the lack of a running game, despite Blaine Gabbert under center - Larry continues to perform!

DFS VALUE PLAYS: Week 13

WR_DeAndre_Hopkins_HOU_1

It seems odd doubling down on wide receivers going against the Titans’ secondary but the match up is just too good to say no! Tennessee currently ranks as the 7th most generous defense to opposing wide receivers and has been absolutely pasted by wide receivers in two of their last three contests.
