CBWho Interview

Congrats CBWho? on becoming a Whale Shark (1000 messages) on the Message Boards!!

So tell us a bit about yourself. How is the new job going?

Life is good my friend. For those of you who don’t know me, I have a beautiful wife who I have been married to for 9 years, and two fantastic little girls. The oldest just graduated kindergarten this year – big moment!! After working for 10 years in printing and marketing services, I made a career change this year to sell drugs…..Legally of course. I completed basically 2 months of training, and have been on the job for about a month now. Things are going well. I need to get adjusted to just influencing doctors, as opposed to getting a client to sign a contract with me, but I think I can make the adjustment. The job comes with lots of perks – vehicle, expense account, etc….but it also comes with wearing 40 different hats (i.e. – inventory manager, assistant, sales guy, etc….). So things are going swimmingly thus far.

Good luck! So, how long have you been participating in Fantasy Football?

I have been actively involved in FFBall for 6 or 7 years now. My first experience with FFBall was with the free yahoo leagues – these were great as I had never done this before, and it gave me a chance to make several mistakes before I started playing with the SUX crowd.

And how many leagues are you involved in? Heard that you did pretty well in your money leagues last year? Do you think you can repeat that performance?

Last year I was in 5 leagues. One free Yahoo league, and 4 Money leagues. In the money leagues, I took two championships, and two runners-up. Minus entry fees and transaction fees, I probably made around $400, which was very nice to receive at the end of the year to pay my two traffic violations. In regards to repeat performances, I will go out on a limb and say that I can win two leagues again this year…..hopefully.

Out of all those leagues, which one is your favorite? What is the deal with this trophy I keep hearing about?

My favorite draft is the Auction League that we are in, probably because I usually spend over half of my $$ within 5 minutes on a couple of studs, and then I can kick back and drink beer for about an hour before my next transaction. All of the leagues that I participate in are fun – but the Keeper league is definitely the best league to win at the end of the year. Our Keeper league has a trophy that the winner gets to keep for a year. The engraving of the trophy is paid for by the loser of the toilet bowl that year – so it makes for some good ribbing throughout the year. And yes, the trophy is currently sitting on my desk – but will soon migrate its way to CBSux’s desk soon.

That trophy will look good at my house, and I plan on having it their for many years. Tell us about your Team Names and what is the meaning behind them?

Team names are something that I usually struggle with. They usually reflect something that is going on in my life at that point in time. The team name that you are referencing is “Trophy in my Pocket” from last year. It was after I had won our Keeper league and I believe that I had made the reference to putting the Trophy in my pocket to take home. This was probably said somewhere after 7 or 8 beers, as the trophy is about 3 feet tall.

So what do you think your best and worst pick of last year was?

My worst pick or move last year was keeping Kurt Warner in our Keeper league. We get to have 3 Keepers, and I had some vision of grandeur that he was going to make a huge comeback – cost me the trophy. My best picks last year were in our Auction league. I was able to get Dante Culpepper, Edge and S. Alexander for just 3/5’s of our cap dollars. Also, I don’t ever claim to be the best drafter in any of our leagues – but I do think that I work the waiver wires better than most. Last year I picked up Santana Moss in 3 leagues, 1 week prior to when he blew up. That move alone helped vault me into top 2 status in all of my leagues.

You promised not to mention Santana Moss ever again! So lets move on to some NFL questions. Being from Minnesota, are the Vikings your favorite team? How well do you think they will do this year?

Vikes are definitely my favorite team. They are also my most frustrating team to cheer for. They have so much talent, and can never seem to pull it together for an entire year including playoffs. My prediction for them this year is 11 & 5, with a central division victory over the Packers. They will make it to the NFC title game, and then choke (unfortunately) like they always do.

Being so old, (you probably saw Unitas play) who is your favorite NFL Player?

I have two favorite players. Much of my growing up was done in Chicago, so I got to watch Walter Payton play a ton of games. For my money, he was the best RB ever. I also am a huge Fran Tarkington fan. I loved watching him run around in the pocket and still have the vision to complete the ball to an open WR.

Now some questions about FantasySharks.com. Rumor has it that you got the boot from a second rate website!

Why yes I did – I didn’t get quite the send off that CBSux did from the web site, as I was invited to come back. However, prior to returning to the CB site – I was encouraged to take a look at the Sharks site. Glad that I did, great place to be.

And now how often do you logon to FantasySharks.com?

It will probably be less now that I am in the car so much, but in my office days, I was able to log onto the site at least 3 to 4 times per day. I am hoping to be able to log on nightly at a minimum this year.

How about your favorite FantasySharks feature or article?

Favorite feature has got to be the tank by far. We have a great community and a ton of characters, not to mention sound advice, within the tank.

Is there any poster on the message boards that you respect the most?

I don’t know if respect is the right word, as I respect most everyone within the Tank. I do have some personal favorites for a variety of reasons. Sux – as you referred me to the site and I like to banter with ya. JBG – loves to join in the banter and keep a thread going. Paddler – mostly because I am afraid of the darkside and if I don’t mention his name in here he will put a curse on my season. LongHorns – give a shout out to my fellow (under) dog out there. Cleffed – very smart dude who also cracks me up. Tazz – kids not afraid to go out on a limb. Cinn – will this girl ever make it back to the site?

Now for the most important question that everyone wants to know. Is the trophy polished, and ready to leave the CBWho family? Will you cry once you have to give it to the new champion? (I forget who won the trophy)

Tears will be shed, but I think that with counseling that I can recover to compete once again.

I know you will!

Thanks again for being such an active poster on the message boards! And congratulations or as Comeback Kid would say CONGRATS!!!
