This week presents some serious budget-saving opportunities so we’ll be throwing some odd looking names out there for GPP consideration. That said, a few of these guys will be widely owned as they present the coveted GPP “free square.” This essentially means a running back who is stepping into the starting role after prices have been published by the DFS platforms. These are guys who will be expected to get high volume at a low price and every once in a while this opportunity will line with a nice matchup too! These are must-starts in most cases and they’ll free up a ton of that valuable budget too! Enjoy the flexibility this week!
Russell Wilson QB, Seattle Seahawks (DraftKings $6,700 FanDuel $8,000)
We’re spending up a bit at quarterback this week but it should all pay off and balance out in the end. Wilson knocked the 49ers for 4 touchdowns just two short weeks ago and he’s playing well right now surpassing 20 points (DK) in 6 of his last 8 contests. With a Top-5 passer rating (111) and the added value he can always bring via his rushing ability, Wilson looks like a very safe bet vs. the soft 49ers defense.
Patrick Mahomes QB, Kansas City Chiefs (DraftKings $6,900 FanDuel $9,500)
The second-year MVP candidate brings a lot to the table each week and it looks as though he may be asked to bring a little bit more with Tyreek Hill banged up and the RB corps reduced to Damien Williams as their lead. Averaging 30.5 points per game (DK) and not a single game under 20 points, Mahomes easily offers the leagues safest floor. The over/under has been driven down to 53 with the news of both team’s primary running backs likely to miss the contest but don’t let that scare you away, this game is going to produce fireworks!
Ben Roethlisberger QB, Pittsburgh Steelers (DraftKings $6,600 FanDuel $8,600)
The narrative on Big Ben’s home/road splits is well documented by the fantasy community so I’ll spare you the repetition. New England is averaging the 10th most points allowed to opposing quarterbacks on the season including a 23.9 point effort surrendered to Ryan Tannehill last week. For those who were unaware, Roethlisberger > Tannehill by a wide margin. James Conner is likely to miss this contest as of this writing so the bulk of the work should fall on Ben and his elite WR corps. Roethlisberger leads the league with 546 pass attempts on the year, a number that should increase with this game’s projected point total now up to 52!
Philip Rivers QB, L.A. Chargers (DraftKings $6,300 FanDuel $8,300)
Arrowhead Stadium is a tough place to play but Rivers is a fierce competitor and with his top 2 running backs likely to miss this game (Gordon is a game-time decision) Rivers will likely need to do all of the heavy lifting. He still has weapons-aplenty and the RB fill in, Justin Jackson is a fine pass catcher with some serious wheels. Boasting a Top-5 completion percentage, averaging 21.2 fantasy points per game in a prime-time game that should be very high scoring, Rivers is a fine option if you need to save a few dollars in your Week 15 budget.
