Week 17 is always a fickle beast when it comes to finding good fantasy starts. Many teams on both ends of the spectrum have nothing left to play for, leaving us in limbo as far as who is playing and who is sitting. Furthermore, even if players aren’t “being rested” this week they may only play the first half to avoid getting rusty which unless they have Todd Gurley like numbers could rob you of the points you’ll need to cash. Its tricky – there’s no way around it. I’ve done my best this week to select players that both have good match ups and are expected to see a full workload assuming health.
Before we dive into our Week 17 DFS value plays lets hold ourselves accountable and see how we did in Week 16:
Tyrod Taylor QB, Buffalo Bills – 12.84 points
Just to be clear, Tyrod fell just shy of hitting value (2.5 x his price in fantasy points) and he would have gotten there if not for one of the most inexplicable calls I have ever seen! I don’t care what the NFL says, Kelvin Benjamin was robbed of a touchdown this past Sunday.
Blake Bortles QB, Jacksonville Jaguars – 28.38 points
That is back-to-back 28+ point outings for the “trash can” quarterback from Jacksonville!
Leonard Fournette RB, Jacksonville Jaguars – 16.00 points
This has sort of been his range lately but the 16 points is solid considering the Jags played much of the game in catch up mode.
Christian McCaffrey RB, Carolina Panthers – 7.80 points
That’s McCaffrey for you! He’ll either go for 20+ or finish with less than 10. Tough to guess right with him but you have to take those shots when the right match up is there.
Joe Mixon RB, Cincinnati Bengals – 5.20 points
Giovani Bernard went off after Mixon left the game so we had a good read on this one – we just got unlucky!
Dion Lewis RB, New England Patriots – 35.30 points
This looked like a smash spot and Lewis didn’t disappoint! Expect big things from him during the upcoming playoff slates as long as Burkhead remains out.
Cooper Kupp WR, L.A. Rams – 16.50 points
In a game where Todd Gurley exploded for 55 points it is good to see Kupp hit the mid-teens. It is hard to ask for much more with the way the game went.
Doug Baldwin WR, Seattle Seahawks – 13.50 points
He had a solid outing considering Russell Wilson only had 21 pass attempts.
Jarvis Landry WR, Miami Dolphins – 9.10 points
Could have been a bit better but the 9 points isn’t a total disaster when you consider some of the goose-eggs that happened across the league this past weekend.
JuJu Smith-Schuster WR, Pittsburgh Steelers – 19.40 points
He had me worried for a good portion of this game but JuJu turned it on in the second half to finish with a decent score.
Antonio Gates TE, L.A. Chargers – 20.10 points
The old warhorse still has it in him! The Chargers will need Gates to stay hot as they fight for a playoff spot.
Travis Kelce TE, Kansas City Chiefs – 14.70 points
Kelce spoils us with 20+ point outings all the time so when he scores less than 15 we feel robbed! Solid outing.
