The Diary of a Fantasy Virgin – Week 2

The Football season kicked off on Thursday and the World Champion New England Patriots hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers. Let us briefly talk about the space occupied by the game and the holes at times left by the Lebeau–less Steelers defense.

Thursday Night Football

The Patriots were ready. The Steelers did not seem too eager to cover Gronkowski. That is the one line take away from the game. The Steelers had all kinds of chances and if they converted on two early field goals and did not try some crazy trick play, they may have actually won the game. Big Ben Roethlisberger threw for 351 yards but only 1 TD. Tom Brady went for 288 yards and 4 TDs. In my strong TD league that is an outrageous 38 points. The game was very entertaining and football is fun again. How are things going for me?

Week 1 Of What?

I start out the year with a loss. And this is the natural outcome of the first week of football for half the teams. I approach this week usually with the top players that I drafted. Take the stock in order and play it up. But sometimes your bench goes crazy. I would have won if I started WR Keenan Allen (started in 73% of the leagues) and WR Kendall Wright (started in 21% of the leagues) over WR Calvin Johnson (100%) and Golden Tate (89%). But it is early and let me see what transpires this week with a revamped lineup.

But it could be worse I guess. Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck both had very forgetful performances which is totally the opposite of last year. I guess I should have seen that coming. But that means it is time to shore up your lineup and use this website to advance your team creation decisions. Decisions will be paramount this year. So make your team better today with a better method to picking your team. I know that I replay this part every year but it is important so heed these recommendations.

Pick Your Team Wisely Using 7 Steps to a Better Team

Can 7 steps make your week?  Only if you try them my compadres de football d’fantasy. Your fantasy football team wins if your starting team has more points at the end of the weekend than your opponent.  As profound as that doesn’t sound it becomes that simple.  A great bench doesn’t win it.  But knowledge is power and I am here to help.  If you lost this week, let me assist you with a strategy that will at least give you a fair shot.  All you want is a fair shot in this game.  Anything else and you are the Postmaster General for the town named clueless, population, you! So here are 7 steps to a better starting lineup.  I made the 7 steps stick out so you can keep them handy.

(2)   Go to  My Fantasy SharksCustomize Fantasy Sharks To Your Leagues and then My Players and enter your team into My Roster.

(3)   After Thursday AM Go To My Fantasy Sharks and Starting Lineup Help and the Linueup Coach

(4) Change all your players to that team…now!

(5)   Here is the fine tune that helps out … Check out this site for all that is hot for the game. If it is a high flying offense against a mediocre defense go for it.

(6)   If any of your second string (WR/TE/QB/K/RB) is on a hot offense, you may want to consider switching.

(7)   Do that until you are satisfied with your selections

Now, just relax, you did your best.  That is all you can hope for.  If you are winning, great, but if you are like the other ½ this week, stuff like this may help.  Now this is just a starter. Take advantage of the message boards and all other fine writers on this site. All of us are here to help you.  But you must begin in the beginning.  Speaking of which…how did your first week go? My diary entry is about first week of the topsy turvy NFL.

Dear Diary

Oh, what a difference a year makes. Peyton Manning goes for 6 points this week. He claims it is a work in progress and only 3 QBs in our league went for a worse score. I think it is time we keep a watch on Peyton and his arm strength. Stay tuned.

In my league, 3 Free Agents were in the top 4 for QB scoring this week. Carson Palmer, Marcus Mariota, and Alex Smith were all available before the games started.

The Buffalo Bills were very athletic and head coach Rex Ryan is “the man” again. Makes you wonder how he loses this “the man” title at all?

It really is going to be a bumpy ride as I start out 0-1.
