The Dive – Week 14 (Stayin’ Alive)

Two weeks ago, we discussed how passing yards and quarterback points were down. Well, Week 13 was the complete opposite and yet another reason why we love watching the NFL. In most fantasy league scoring systems, Cam Newton, Blake Bortles, Ben Roethlisberger, Marcus Mariota, Russell Wilson and Tom Brady scored at least 40 points! Wide receivers Allen Robinson and Antonio Brown also failed to disappoint with their own monster performances.

As NFL playoff races begin to heat up, most fantasy playoff series will begin in Week 14. If you are in, then congratulations! It’s time to follow the Bee Gees famous hit “Stayin’ Alive” and survive each week going forward. Whether you barely secured the sixth spot or locked in the top seed and are enjoying a bye week, let’s get ready for another exciting weekend of fantasy football.

QB Tyrod Taylor

Buffalo QB Tyrod Taylor.

“T-Mobile,” as he is often referred to, has been on fire recently with seven touchdowns over his last two games. Taylor is heating up at the perfect time for fantasy owners and should rack up another gem in Week 14 as Buffalo visits Philadelphia. Philadelphia has allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, including 18 passing touchdowns over the last five games. With nice weather forecasted in Philadelphia for Sunday, look for Taylor to move the ball through the air and on the ground with ease.

Week 14 Projection: 200 passing yards, 25 rushing yards, 2 TD

RB Shaun Draughn

Draughn has been filling in for Carlos Hyde in San Francisco’s weak offense rather satisfactorily. However, he has been a very effective receiver and is delivering more value in points per reception leagues. Draughn is a potential flex/RB3 start in Week 14 as San Francisco visits Cleveland. The Cleveland defense has surrendered the most rushing yards and sixth-most fantasy points to opposing backs. Don’t expect a breakout performance, but Draughn can make a difference, especially in points per reception leagues.

Week 14 Projection: 100 total yards, TD

WR Dorial Green-Beckham

Tennessee’s offense has been a roller-coaster this season, but appears to be headed in the right direction. With Marcus Mariota healthy, several teammates have become fantasy relevant, including Dorial Green-Beckham. The rookie receiver looked like “Odell Beckham” as he torched Jacksonville with five catches for 119 receiving yards and a score. Fellow receiver Kendall Wright claimed “the monster came out” when referencing his teammate’s huge game. Green-Beckham will be defended by the New York Jets, whose secondary has become much more susceptible to opposing wideouts recently as they have given up 11 touchdowns over the last six games and sixth-most points overall to the position. The Jets’ secondary may also be missing Darrelle Revis for another game. Start Green-Beckham with confidence as a WR3 or flex for Week 14.

Week 14 Projection: 80 receiving yards, TD

TE Scott Chandler

Chandler has not been posting Rob Gronkowski numbers, but has still been very solid over the last few games filling in nicely for the superstar tight end. Chandler has caught three touchdowns in last four games and should catch another as New England visits Houston in Week 14. Houston has been strong against tight ends most of the season, but Chandler should continue to be heavily targeted by Tom Brady as he has accumulated 18 over the last two games. Start Chandler as TE2 with high upside.

Week 14 Projection: 50 receiving yards, TD

Defense/Special Teams – Detroit Lions

As Detroit’s offense appears to improving under offense coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, the defense has also been more fierce. In fact, Detroit is averaging 3.4 sacks per game over the last five contests. Detroit has also allowed less passing yards over the last five games and should have no obstacles preying on the ailing St. Louis offense in Week 14. Case Keenum is scheduled to make another start for St. Louis, which should make Detroit a great start for Week 14.

Week 14 Projection: 12 points

Week 13 Results

QB Alex Smith

Week 13 Projection: 250 passing yards, 25 rushing yards, 2 TD

Week 13 Results: 162 passing yards, 23 rushing yards, 2 passing TD, rushing TD (great call)

RB Javorius Allen

Week 13 Projection: 100 total yards, TD

Week 13 Results: 170 total yards, TD (great call)

WR Seth Roberts

Week 13 Projection: 80 receiving yards, TD

Week 13 Results: 51 receiving yards (OK call)

TE Julius Thomas

Week 13 Projection: 75 receiving yards, TD

Week 13 Results: 15 receiving yards, TD (OK call)

Defense/Special Teams – Washington

Week 13 Projection: 11 points

Week 13 Results: 8 points (ok call)

Good luck in Week 14!
