It was not the happiest of holiday weekends for out bargain basement selections. As a matter of fact, you could say that when we reached into our stocking there was a big old lump of coal.
Not a single one of our defense/special teams managed to reach the double-digit plateau. It was a full on Yukon Cornelius “Nothing!” moment as he searches for silver and gold.
Never fear as we have a full slate of games to choose from this week as there is no Thursday Night Football affair in Week 17. The bargain bin was full of fine selections and we shall ring in the new year with a bevy of high scoring cheap selections.
Let’s do this one last time.
CAROLINA at Tampa Bay ($2,600) – The Carolina defense has been decent over the last three games, having put up 10 sacks and forcing eight turnovers. It’s not so much the way Carolina has been playing as it is the way Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay offense has played over the past two weeks with which we are concerned. After a stretch of protecting the ball well, Winston has reverted to turning the ball over. In the past two games, he has scored four touchdowns while committing six turnovers. Winston now has 22 turnovers on the season and those are numbers that we like our bargain defense/special teams to chase.
WASHINGTON vs. New York Giants ($2,900) – In Week 17 when there is uncertainty as to how much (if at all) starters will stay in games, it’s wise to trust teams playing in meaningful games. Washington still has a shot at the playoffs if Detroit loses Sunday Night so Washington will ride its starters all game long. The Giants are locked into their playoff position and even though they have stated that they will play all their regular starters, there is no guarantee as to how much they will play. We also like that Eli Manning is coming off of a three-interception game last week and has turned the ball over six times in the past three weeks.
