DFS: DraftKings & FanDuel – Week 5 Value Plays

We have another week with games shifting to different days as the Broncos vs Patriots and the Bills vs Titans will be played on Monday due to players testing positive for COVID-19. The Jets had a player test positive and had to close their facility. Let’s hope they do not have to cancel and move the game but keep your eye on the news.

Injuries to several players might come down to game time decisions. Players such as Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Lamar Jackson could miss this week. Jackson scares me the most because he is the most expensive quarterback on the slate and dealing with a knee issue with could limit his rushing upside as well as his ability to escape the pass rush.

Quarterbacks

The top owned quarterback was Ryan Fitzpatrick at 16%. He finished with 26.3 DraftKings points which was the 4th highest on the slate for the position. Teddy Bridgewater just edged him out for best value scoring 27.24 DraftKings points but was just 2% owned. Dak Prescott led the slate with 42.28 DraftKings points. Jared Goff was the biggest bust scoring just 11.7 DraftKings points. There were 8 quarterbacks that were in the 23-25 point range last week.

$DPP Value Plays

Kyle Allen– Washington Football Team (DK: $4,100/$293 DPP — FD: $6,000/$429 DPP)

Allen will get the start this week as Dwayne Haskins gets demoted to 3rd on the depth chart. Last season Allen was inconsistent in his 13 starts having a floor as low as 3.32 DraftKings points but a ceiling of 25 points. He scored over 20 fantasy points in four games but three of those came in his last five games. Though he doesn’t have Christian McCaffrey to check down to, he could easily payoff his low-price tag. Washington is 7.5-point underdogs playing at home so they will likely have to throw playing from behind. The Rams are allowing 18.8 fantasy points to the position.

Jimmy Garoppolo– San Francisco 49ers (DK: $5,500/$423 DPP — FD: $6,700/$515 DPP)

This is in hopes Garoppolo plays. If not pivot to Teddy Bridgewater who will be popular. Garoppolo has practiced this week and has a chance to play against the Dolphins. The Dolphins allow the 4th highest fantasy points to the position with 23.1 per game. We have seen over the last few weeks that the 49ers can still put up points with limited players and now George Kittle is healthy and Raheem Mostert has a chance to play, things are looking up. The 49ers are 8-point favorites playing at home.

Running Backs

Alvin Kamara was owned in 54% of tournament lineups. He was outscored by 9 other running backs as he finished with 20.9 DraftKings points. The best value was Joe Mixon scoring 45.1 DraftKings points at 6% ownership. The biggest bust was Darrell Henderson at 20% ownership scoring 4.3 DraftKings points and Kenyan Drake at 16% ownership scoring 3.5 DraftKings points.

$DPP Value Plays

David Johnson– Houston Texans (DK: $5,200/$347 DPP — FD: $6,400/$492 DPP)

After a good Week 1 performance, David Johnson is averaging just 40 rushing yards on the ground with only one touchdown during that span. The team fired their coach and GM and usually, the new coach likes to run the ball to start with. I’m hoping that Romeo Crennel will get Johnson the ball more this week. The Texans play at home vs the Jaguars who are 25th in fantasy points allowed to running backs with 24.5 points per game. Expect his ownership to be high.

Chase Edmonds– Arizona Cardinals (DK: $4,700/$362 DPP — FD: $5,900/$536 DPP)

Are we seeing Edmonds steal the starting role from Kenyan Drake? He has certainly been more involved recently. Last week Drake carried the ball just 13 times for 35 yard and did not receive a single target. Edmonds only saw 4 carries for 16 yards, but he saw 6 targets, catching 5 for 24 yards and a touchdown. Assuming this game is played due to the recent Covid positives, the matchup for the Cardinals is great as the Jets allow 24.3 fantasy points to the position. The Cardinals are favored by 7 points. If they can get a lead early, Edmonds could find himself seeing more snaps.
