DFS GEMS: Week 10

Week 9 was pretty wild, we connected on our wideouts landing 5/7 players in the top 10 but waned significantly as all but one of our running backs completely let us down. Only Josh Jacobs made a trip to the top 10 finishing as RB3. We did well calling Zach Ertz and Jack Doyle who both connected in the top 10 at tight end but only one of our quarterback picks landed in the top 10 with Russell Wilson finishing as QB1. This was certainly a weekend where our stacks paid off but we would have done much better had we gone with a full-blown “onslaught” approach. By onslaught, I mean a mega stack. Something like Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf with Mike Evans on the come back could have been quite lucrative. We’ll see if we can find an appropriate spot for an onslaught lineup in Week 10.

As a reminder – the rankings below indicate the corresponding team’s ranking in average DraftKings points allowed per game(YTD) The higher the number, the better the matchup. All info that applies to the recommended player will be displayed in bold.

I play on DraftKings exclusively so most of my takes will be slanted towards their scoring and pricing. The weekly Millionaire Maker contest is also focused on the Sunday daytime slate. For takes and advice regarding primetime and London games hit me on Twitter @DavidO_DFS

Quarterbacks

QB – Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (DraftKings $5,100, FanDuel $7,200)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs QB vs RB vs WR vs TE
kc -3 -4 26.25 22 30 7 22
ten 48.5 48.5 22.25 13 19 10 17

Say what you want about the guy but Tannehill has averaged over 23 DraftKings points per game over his last three contests. He has a nice matchup as do his running backs and tight ends so while the matchup for wideouts doesn’t look too inviting, Tannehill should still be a viable, cheap starter in what projects to be a negative game script to help stretch the Week 10 budget.

QB – Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals (DraftKings $6,500, FanDuel $7,700)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs QB vs RB vs WR vs TE
az 54 51.5 23.5 32 12 21 32
tb -5.5 -4.5 28 29 2 32 31

I’m locked in on this game as I’m sure 90% of the industry is as well. I’m so locked in on this game, I bought tickets and will be there live to see these two offenses go off against these two abysmal “defenses.” Neither team can stop the pass at all so as long as nobody shoots themselves in the foot, there should be ample fireworks in this contest. $6,500 is a bit more than I typically like spending at the quarterback position but I think this game warrants significant attention in Week 10.

QB – Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (DraftKings $6,700, FanDuel $8,300)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs QB vs RB vs WR vs TE
atl 50 51.5 19.25 30 10 29 18
no -13 -13 32.25 21 4 19 12

Brees is back baby! He got off to a hot start before the bye and should have no trouble dismantling the decaying husk that is the Atlanta defense. I’m spending up here and you better believe we’ll be stacking him with Michael Thomas. At home, vs a bottom 4 pass defense, Brees is a no-brainer for me despite being the 4th most expensive player at his position this week.

QB – Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (DraftKings $6,600, FanDuel $8,000)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs QB vs RB vs WR vs TE
car 48 47 21 15 27 25 6
gb -7 -5 26 8 28 8 26

Did I mention how much I liked the AZ @ TB game this week? Good because Rodgers makes an excellent price pivot option off of Kyler Murray who is only $100 less. This game should garner a good bit of attention but ownership percentages shouldn’t be nearly as high as they will be with the Tampa game. Rodgers is coming off a down week in which the Packers took the L on the road vs the Chargers. Green Bay scored a mere 11 points in that contest and should get back on track at home vs Carolina who ranks in the bottom 8 vs opposing running backs and wide receivers. The Packers definitely use their running backs out of the backfield and Davante Adams is finally back and looking strong. Rodgers should eat in this game.
