DFS GEMS: Week 14

The winning lineup in the Week 13 Millionaire Maker contest on DraftKings featured six players from last week’s article. Carson Wentz, Christian McCaffrey, Davante Adams, DeVante Parker, Alshon Jeffery and the Kansas City D/ST accounted for 161.60 points among the six of them, over 70 percent of the winner’s final point total of 228.80. The top spot was split this week which means that some of the pieces may have been rather chalky. McCaffrey and Adams are two clear culprits with 40 percent and 27 percent ownership respectively but the point here is to remind you that some chalk is OK. We’ll look to improve on last week’s mark as we welcome those who have failed to make the playoffs in their season-long leagues. We’ve got some solid matchups on tap in Week 14 so let’s dive right into it!

As a reminder the rankings below indicate the corresponding team’s ranking in average DraftKings points allowed per game (YTD). The higher the number, the better the matchup. All info that applies to the recommended player will be displayed in bold.

I play on DraftKings exclusively so most of my takes will be slanted towards their scoring and pricing. The weekly Millionaire Maker contest is also focused on the Sunday daytime slate. For takes and advice regarding primetime and London games follow me on Twitter @DavidO_DFS

QB Deshaun Watson, Houston (DraftKings $6,500, FanDuel $7,700)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs. QB vs. RB vs. WR vs. TE
den 40.5 41.5 16 5 15 5 16
hou -7.5 -9.5 25.5 28 29 21 13

With the ability to go off any given week, Watson is always in play at the quarterback position. The matchup on paper isn’t spectacular until you consider the fact that the game is at home, Houston is heavy favorites and Denver has given up the seventh-most DraftKings points to opposing quarterbacks over the last four games. If I’m spending up at quarterback, this is the spot for me in Week 14.

QB Sam Darnold, New York Jets (DraftKings $6,000, FanDuel $7,700)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs. QB vs. RB vs. WR vs. TE
mia 44 45 15.25 26 30 26 19
nyj -7.5 -5.5 28.25 13 8 29 20

Ideally, I’d like to spend down at quarterback this week and Darnold could present a nice opportunity given how this game stacks up. Both teams are soft on the defensive side of the ball and all of Darnold’s weapons have great matchups, including Le’Veon Bell who has 55 receptions on the year. I’m going to have a few more Jets down below and while I don’t believe Darnold can support them all in a single game, I do believe he can support himself and have a nice four times return on investment kind of day.

QB Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis (DraftKings $6,100, FanDuel $7,400)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs. QB vs. RB vs. WR vs. TE
ind 50.5 47.5 22.25 12 7 18 18
tb -1 -3 25.25 29 3 32 28

You’ve got to love just about any team playing against Tampa Bay this season. This leaky defense has yielded some of the highest point totals for quarterbacks and wide receivers this season and I see no reason Brissett shouldn’t make that list as well in Week 14. This game has shootout written all over it and Brissett presents a nice chance to save a few bucks. T.Y. Hilton is likely out again but Jack Doyle ($4,400 DK) has a nice matchup as do all of the Indianapolis receivers. Brissett should thrive down at the beach this weekend.

QB Tom Brady, New England (DraftKings $6,100, FanDuel $7,700)

Team O/U (open) O/U (current) Implied Team Total vs. QB vs. RB vs. WR vs. TE
kc 50.5 49 23 21 32 2 30
ne -4 -3 26 1 1 1 7

I know I want a piece of this game and while New England has been sputtering on offense of late you better believe coach Bill Belichick will have the team ready for this showdown. Brady has attempted more passes than anyone else in the league at this point in the season so the volume is certainly there. Knowing what this offense is capable of gives me reason for hope against this generous opponent. There’s risk, and it’s not a slam dunk per se but Brady could easily have a nice game for the price.
