DFS GEMS: Week 16

As the regular season winds down and traditional, weekly fantasy football slowly goes away, there is still plenty of daily fantasy sports (DFS) to play! We still have Week 17 and all the rounds of the NFL playoffs to partake in so enjoy this week while it lasts! Most of the starters will be playing this week and we get to enjoy a full slate of football before switching to reduced slates based on playoff matchups. Those smaller slate contests are certainly a good time but the main slate is where the best action is. So enjoy it this week and mix things up a bit! Week 1 2019 is a long ways away!

Quarterbacks

Dak Prescott QB, Dallas (DraftKings $5,700 FanDuel $7,300)

This selection is more about the matchup than anything else. Tampa Bay is averaging 27.4 points per game (DK) on the season and has given up at least one touchdown to enemy passers in every single contest this year. Prescott had a down week at Indianapolis in Week 15 but had been playing fine football in the previous weeks, spurned by the arrival of Amari Cooper. This is the perfect matchup to get back on track and it comes at a nice price. Whether it was Prescott or not, you’d have to start any quarterback favored by seven, at home, against this defense.

Deshaun Watson QB, Houston (DraftKings $6,600 FanDuel $$8,000)

The other Texas quarterback finds himself in a pretty good spot this week too. Houston are slight underdogs (+2.5) on the road at Philadelphia where Philadelphia is fresh off its surprising win over the Los Angeles Rams. The over/under is at a moderate 46 points but with these two teams, there is a decent chance for more. Both teams need this win; Philadelphia more so than Houston so expect both teams to put up a fight. Philadelphia ranks in the Bottom 10 against opposing quarterbacks and has allowed the second-most points per game to opposing wideouts. That sounds like a Watson-DeAndre Hopkins stack to me!

Baker Mayfield QB, Cleveland (DraftKings $6,100 FanDuel $7,700)

Mayfield is the kind of player who could pop off for four touchdowns any given week. This week, with Cincinnati coming to town, that just might happen – again! In Week 12, Mayfield threw for four touchdowns at Cincinnati on his way to a 25.9-point effort. This game could be a sneaky shootout if some of the younger Cincinnati players can step up in the wake of so many injuries. It’s nice to have one of the quarterbacks if a shootout happens and I trust Mayfield a good bit more than Jeff Driskel, who scored 17.1 points against the Cleveland defense in Week 12. That contest saw 55 points scored, which could potentially happen here again. Either way, the match up for the Cleveland quarterback is too good to pass on with Cincinnati averaging 29.1 points per game to opposing passers.

Russell Wilson QB, Seattle (DraftKings $6,100 FanDuel $8,300)

After experiencing a nice mid-late season surge, Wilson took a step back in Week 14 before regaining his form in Week 15. Good time to get back on track as Kansas City’s generous pass defense comes to town. Kansas City has allowed 26.1 points per game to opposing passers on the season, third-worst in the league. Kansas City also gives up the most passing yards per game in the NFL and this game has a 53.5-point over/under, tied for the most this week. Seattle is slight underdogs (+2.5) at home but should have ample reason to unleash Wilson as it attempts to keep pace with this high-octane offense. The last time Wilson faced an elite offense like this was in Week 10 at the Los Angeles Rams where he posted a 27.2-point effort. If he does that against Kansas City that’ll be nearly four times return on investment at $6,100. Good match up, good price and a good football player who is Top 5 in passer rating on the year.
