DFS GEMS: Week 6 – Hurricane Edition

This is the Hurricane Michael edition of DFS gems. As I write, I am currently under a mandatory evacuation order so I’ll make it quick! If you enjoy the usually 3,000+ word weekly manifesto I churn out  – rest assured I have every intention of getting back to that next week. So before my power goes out lets get to it!

Quarterbacks

Baker Mayfield  QB, Cleveland Browns (DraftKings $5,500)

We are going to try to dig a bit deeper at QB this week and Baker makes for a solid play at $5,500. He managed to put up 22 points against the vaunted Ravens defense last week who average out as the 3rd least generous to opposing passers. The Chargers are not the Ravens, not even close! They are currently averaging 19.6 points per game allowed to quarterbacks and Baker appears to be heating up. We are going to need the budget elsewhere this week so throw Baker into a few lineups – the rushing ability is there as well so he could have a monster game any week.

Jared Goff QB, Los Angeles Rams (DraftKings $6,000)

I’m expecting Goff to be heavily owned but at this price I’m OK with that. He’s averaging just over 26 points per game and the Broncos are currently allowing 18.5 points to opposing passers. The Rams have a 29.75 implied total in this contest and Todd Gurley is enticing but he costs $10,000 this week. Rather than blow the budget I’m rolling with Goff in several GPP’s even if he is the scratch of the week, he should pan out.

Sam Darnold QB, New York Jets (DraftKings $5,300)

Sam Darnold is quietly playing pretty darn well having tossed 3 touchdowns last week vs the Broncos. The Colts just gave up 3 touchdowns via the air up in Foxboro and now they travel to face the Jets and their upward trending passing attack. The Colts are averaging the 9th most points allow to opposing passers through 5 weeks allowing nearly 20 points per game to the position. Darnold, has a nice price tag, moderate floor and high ceiling in this nice match up at home with an under the radar 45 point over/under.

Russell Wilson QB, Seattle Seahawks (DraftKings $5,700)

I hate seeing this guy struggle this season but he’s got Doug Baldwin back finally with one game already under his belt, so that should help. It likely helped last week as the Rams defense must have been distracted allowing some nasty blown coverage passing touchdowns. I’m encouraged by that performance and by Wilson’s next opponent – the Oakland Raiders. The match up is under the radar as the Raiders come in having allowed an average of 18.4 points per game to opposing passers (14th in the league) so while Russell will have decent ownership it won’t be too high I don’t expect. I do expect Wilson to keep this offense rolling as they look to right the ship in week 6.
