DFS VALUE PLAYS: Week 14

As people focus on the fantasy playoffs, those that are no longer in the running will turn their attention to DFS. The good thing about DFS is that it is just as competitive from week to week. No more games against the guy that hasn’t set his lineup since Week 6 or the owner who traded all of his players away because he’s out of the playoff hunt.

This time of year I try to stick to studs playing in meaningful games and devalue options from teams that are no longer in playoff consideration. The worst thing is for a player to sit out the second-half because a team has jumped out early on an opponent with nothing to play for.

Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes was the highest owned quarterback on the slate at 17% across tournaments. He was the only quarterback with double-digit ownership, finishing with 19.5 DraftKings points. The top scorer on the slate was also the best value as Ryan Fitzpatrick finished with 30.8 DraftKings points at 2% owned. The biggest bust was Nick Foles at 9% ownership. He got benched at halftime and finished with just 1.02 DraftKings points.

$DPP Value Plays

Sam Darnold NYJ (DK: $6,000/$500DPP — FD: $7,700/$642 DPP)

After three wins in a row, Darnold and the Jets disappointed in a good match-up against the Bengals; this week Darnold has another good match-up against the Dolphins. In the first meeting, Darnold played poorly throwing for just one touchdown and one interception. Expect a bounce-back game against a team that is still not all that good. The Dolphins are 23rd in passing defense allowing 256.2 passing yards per game with 29 touchdowns allowed, 2nd highest behind the Cardinals in touchdown passes allowed. They have given up 23.61 DraftKings points to the position over the last four weeks.

Derek Carr OAK (DK: $5,000/$333 DPP — FD: $7,000/$467 DPP)

Carr has not been good over the last few weeks but I like him most among the spend-down options. Josh Jacobs is questionable for this game so the Raiders will likely have to pass more. They have a good match-up against the Titans who are beatable through the air. They rank 27th in passing defense with 260.1 passing yards per game and 18 touchdowns given up. Over the last 4 weeks they have allowed 20.22 DraftKings points to quarterbacks.

Tom Brady NEP (DK: $6,100/$436 DPP — FD: $7,700/$550 DPP)

Brady last week had his best fantasy outing since Week 1. This week he faces off against the Chiefs in the highest implied total game on the slate, yet Brady is expected to have low ownership. Yes, the Chiefs are bad against the run but 230.8 passing yards per game with 19 passing touchdowns allowed. Assuming Brady scores 22 DraftKings points, it would make him one of the better points-per-dollar plays on the slate. In the previous two match-ups against the Chiefs he has had 18.82 and 25.8 DraftKings points.
