DFS VALUE PLAYS: Week 17

Welcome to week 17, the final week of football in this decade. Over the last 10 seasons we have saw some great fantasy performances but 2019 has been special. In the all decade DraftKings team, three of them were from 2019. Christian McCaffrey leads all fantasy players this decade with 472.7 DraftKings points on the year. He is averaging 31.5 DraftKings points per game. If he scores that many points in Week 17, he would finish with 504.2 DraftKings points, which would place him second all-time behind LaDainian Tomlinson’s 2006 season of 512.1. Michael Thomas is having a big season scoring 396.9 DraftKings points as he is averaging 26.46 DraftKings points per game. If he scores that many points this week, he will finish with 423.36 DraftKings points, which would place him second all-time behind Jerry Rice’s 1995 season of 447 DraftKings points. The Patriots are the all-time leading defense scoring 230 DraftKings points this season. If they score their season average of 15.3 fantasy points per game, they can finish with 245.3 DraftKings points.

All-Decade Team (2010-2019)

  • QB- Peyton Manning 2013             462 DraftKings points, 28.9 DK ppg
  • RB- Christian McCaffrey 2019      472.7 (504.2*) DraftKings points, 31.5 DK ppg
  • RB- David Johnson 2016               435.8 DraftKings points, 26.6 DK ppg
  • WR- Antonio Brown 2014             417.2 DraftKings points, 26.1 DK ppg
  • WR- Julio Jones 2015                    402.1 DraftKings points, 25.1 DK ppg
  • WR- Michael Thomas 2019           396.9 (423.3*) DraftKings points, 26.5 DK ppg
  • TE- Rob Gronkowski 2011             345.9 DraftKings points, 21.6 DK ppg
  • Flex- Arian Foster 2010                418 DraftKings points, 26.1 DK ppg
  • DEF- Patriots D/ST 2019             230 (245.3*) DraftKings points, 14.4 DK ppg

Quarterbacks

$DPP Value Plays

Nick Foles JAX (DK: $5,300/$883 DPP — FD: $6,300/$1,050 DPP)

The Jaguars will fire their head coach after the game Sunday. Foles has one more game to showcase himself if Gardner Minshew is ruled out with a shoulder injury. In the first meeting with the Colts, Foles threw for almost 300 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Leonard Fournette will miss this game with the flu so the team won’t pound the run like they would with Fournette in. The Colts over the last 4 games have allowed the second most DraftKings points to the position with 28.18 per game.

A. J. McCarron HOU (DK: $5,000/$263 DPP — FD: $6,000/$316 DPP)

With Deshaun Watson questionable this week, McCarron should make the start. These teams played two weeks ago where Watson put up 243 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. DeAndre Hopkins is questionable but if he goes, expect McCarron to throw Hopkins way as often as possible. The Titans over the last 4 games are allowing 20.95 DraftKings points per game. If Hopkins is out, avoid the Houston offense and play the Tennessee defense.

Case Keenum WAS (DK: $4,500/$900 DPP — FD: $6,800/$1,360 DPP)

Keenum will start the last game of the season with Dwayne Haskins out. The Redskins have ruled out Terry McLaurin so the receiving options are thin with Steven Sims as the likely WR1. This game has meaning with the Cowboys still fighting for a playoff spot. The Cowboys have allowed the 4th most DraftKings points to the position over the last month with 23.98 per game.

Running Backs

$DPP Value Plays

Ryquell Armstead JAX (DK: $4,400/$338 DPP — FD: $4,500/$409 DPP)

With Leonard Fournette ruled out with the flu, Armstead will start in his place. The workload split is unknown but you can guess Armstead gets 12-15 touches depending on the game flow. The problem I have with Armstead is his price on DraftKings where he isn’t below $4,000. That makes him a decent value play but not a lock button play. He did not play much in the first meeting with the Colts. The Colts are allowing 28.8 DraftKings points to the position.

Mike Boone MIN (DK: $5,300/$379 DPP — FD: $6,200/$477 DPP)

Dalvin Cook has been ruled out and Alexander Mattison is questionable with an ankle injury. If Mattison also sits, then I like Boone this week. If Mattison plays, I will be off Boone because of his price. Last week he saw just 11 carries. The Vikings have clinched a playoff spot and will be resting Kirk Cousins. This should allow Boone if he gets the start to see more carries with Sean Mannion under center. It also isn’t the best match-up against the Bears who are allowing just 23.8 DraftKings points to the position.

Justice Hill BAL (DK: $4,600/$920 DPP — FD: $5,900/$1,180 DPP)

Mark Ingram is ruled out with a calf injury. Hill will split running back duties with Gus Edwards but I like Hill better. Last week Hill scored a touchdown and saw 4 targets while Edwards saw more carries. They are both priced about the same with Hill $200 cheaper. They face the Steelers who play the run tough allowing just 21.15 DraftKings points per game. This game will likely not have an stars on either side so treat it as a preseason game and hope Hill gets plenty of run.
