Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns – I haven’t seen a player completely revolutionize and transform a team in such a dramatic fashion in quite some time. Baker Mayfield did just that last Thursday night vs. the Jets. Let’s face it, Tyrod Taylor was merely a bridge-gap and not a long-term solution. Taylor has been a mediocre, serviceable quarterback throughout his career but ultimately was going to cede the starting role to Mayfield sooner or later. With his poor play and subsequently the Browns poor play, Taylor was pulled from the game and in came Mayfield. He was electric from the moment he entered the game and completed 17-of-23 passes for 201 yards in the Browns first victory in 635 days. Whether or not he can have sustained success remains to be seen, but the upside with Mayfield is evident after what we saw from him in his NFL debut. He is worth a pickup this week and in a perfect-world has high-end QB2 upside for the rest of the season. Side note – Antonio Callaway was featured in the Early Grab Bag article last week, and with Mayfield taking over as the starting quarterback for the Browns, Callaway is a must-add in all formats and has to be considered as a legitimate WR3 with low-end WR2 upside going forward. If you’re in need of wide receiver help and he’s still out there, scoop him up immediately.
