GRINDERS & GAMBLES: Week 15

“Grinders and Gambles” is duct tape for teams in need of help. This list is for deeper leagues or for those in shallower leagues who are picking up players in free agency after waivers have run.

  • Grinders are the guys who will get you some points. They may not have an upside but they will grind out 5-15 points depending on your scoring.
  • Gambles can get you a goose egg but also have tremendous upside.

We are heading towards playoffs and if you are still working the wire you are either fighting for a spot or preparing for the end of season.

Grinders

Ryan Tannehill, Miami – Tannehill is a bit banged up and he plays Minnesota, but he should give some grinder level numbers this week.

Derek Carr, Oakland – Carr is my favorite grab of the week if you are hurting at quarterback. He is steadily putting up numbers and is facing Cincinnati’s turnstile defense this week.

Kenneth Dixon, Baltimore – Dixon showed up last week for owners and is still on some waiver wires. He faces the ‘fearsome’ Tampa Bay run defense this week so, even in a shared backfield, he should eat.

Dion Lewis, Tennessee – Lewis has been a low-end grinder for most of the season and should have found his way to the waiver wire after last week’s Derrick Henry performance. He sees the New York Giants this week and Henry will need a breather every once in a while. Keep your expectations low but he should be a low-end grinder for you again this week.

Dante Pettis, San Francisco – Pettis is a great grab if you are weak at receiver. He should see targets for the rest of the year and is worth making some room for on your roster. He has a tough schedule coming up so temper expectations.

Josh Doctson, Washington – Doctson has been a low-end grinder regardless of who is under center. He should see a few targets this week from a harried Josh Johnson.

Robby Anderson, New York Jets – Anderson has grinded out points for the last two weeks and he has some upside against Houston this week. He is steady but an unimpressive stat line has put him on many a waiver wire. He may help you out this week.

Ian Thomas, Carolina – Thomas has come through for two weeks in a row, and Carolina faces New Orleans.

Jordan Thomas, Houston – Notice last week’s gambles have turned into this week’s grinders. Both of them pulled enough targets over the last few weeks to earn grinder status this week.
