Home / Commentary / THE LOWDOWN: Week 14

Welcome to “The Lowdown” for Week  14. This is my little corner of the fantasy football universe — feel free to pull up a chair and stay a while!

Running Wild

We’ll have to wait until next season for the Best Damn Draft Theory to confirm this theory, but it seems as if the NFL is starting to start putting some value on running backs again. Consider this: after 12 games, there are two runners (Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott) who have already topped 1,000 yards rushing; further, there’s another nine on pace top 1,000 yards by season’s end. There’s also another two runners who are projected to end up with 990-995 rushing yards, which means we have a good shot at seeing a total of 13 running backs top the 1,000-yard mark (a 14th, Kareem Hunt, was easily on pace to top 1,000 yards rushing, but … well, you know). That’s one or two more than what we’ve been seeing over the last few years.

But it doesn’t end there – most of these runners are also among the leading receivers on their teams; guys like Ezekiel Elliott, Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara and James Conner have also hauled in 50-plus catches thus far, and several more figure to have at least that many by season’s end.

In other words, while the NFL is still a quarterback-driven league, the old adage of a good running back being a quarterbacks’s best friend has never been truer.

Presidential-level Self-Promotion

Here’s yet another plug for my new comedy show, Net News. It’s streaming right now on Amazon Prime (streaming free for members). Here’s the fourth trailer (starring yours truly) on YouTube [language NSFW]:

I’ve also put up the entire series on Youtube, so there’s no excuse for you not watching all six episodes! Go to and start watching today. I’d also appreciate it if you visited the show’s IMDB page and gave it a (hopefully) good rating and subscribe (for free) to my Youtube channel.
