Welcome my fantasy brethren to another edition of The Prognosticator, may it give you pause. The more we think we know, the less we really do. Pay attention to situations this time of year, for example, the Ron Rivera firing and teams that are eliminated, wanting to audition more of their roster. Inclement weather problems are also starting to rear their ugly heads, this past week was the worst we’ve had that impacted so many games. Keep your eyes on those fronts! Enjoy the games this week.

How to read the table: The table shows how a team will do Passing and Rushing in the upcoming week of the NFL. Red is HOT, Yellow is WARM, White is NORMAL, Light Blue is COLD and Dark Blue is FREEZING COLD. Play players from teams that are Red and Yellow, avoid players from teams that are Light or Dark Blue and expect average days from teams that are White.
Dallas Cowboys at Chicago Bears – Thursday 8:20pm | |||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
We liked the Bears and the points but had the wrong team. Against Chicago was Dallas’ chance to grab the reigns of the NFC East and they absolutely did not do that. You know my stance on Dallas by now as I have not wavered from it. Dallas will not win because Jason Garrett is not the guy, and to be clear, it’s not really Garrett’s fault; he’s just Jason Garrett being Jason Garrett and being the head coach of an NFL football team just isn’t his thing. I am not an NFL owner but if I were, I’d have Jason Garrett as our offensive coordinator in a heartbeat, happy to have him. No, the finger of blame for the state of the Dallas Cowboys doesn’t get pointed at Garrett, the coaching staff or the players, the finger gets pointed straight at Jerry Jones for not recognizing what Dallas has been missing for so very long, a coach that can unify a locker room, build a winning culture and have the permission and power to truly hold everyone accountable.

Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills – Sunday 1:00pm | |||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
It’s quite possible that Buffalo shocks the world here. Both the Ravens and Bills are built similarly and because of it, their new-era brand of football is having some short-term success. One thing I know is that defenses always adjust to the offenses, sometimes it takes a season and some player personnel changes to be able to counteract what new and novel offenses bring. Remember the Wildcat in Miami? That didn’t last long. Buffalo at home, may just have the horses to get this done but until Lamar Jackson stumbles and falls, ride Baltimore while the riding is good. Two great ground games go at it here; coming down to special teams and quarterback play to determine the outcome.

Miami Dolphins at New York Jets – Sunday 1:00pm | |||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Miami has been winning at home but this one is a trip up the East Coast to the chilly New Jersey shore. While Miami has been winning and playing better football lately, this will ultimately turn into a challenging game for them. New York will pressure Ryan Fitzpatrick into a few extra mistakes and Sam Darnold will light up the Miami secondary that has struggled mightily to contain anyone. The Jets’ passing game makes for a sneaky play this week as there will be some solid production from it.

Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns – Sunday 1:00pm | |||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
It’s a four hour drive from Cleveland to Cincinnati and Browns fans will travel. With Cincinnati playing out the string, expect the stadium to be very Cleveland friendly. It means they will have the luxury of being able to run their offense without too much interruption. This is truly two ships that are passing in the night. Cincinnati needs to blow it up and rebuild while Cleveland isn’t too far away from turning their ship around, they just need a few more pieces and some different pieces. Good game for your Browns here, do not be shy, get them in your lineups. Avoid your Bengals if you can as they will struggle against this Cleveland team. Cincinnati will not be able to stop Cleveland’s punishing ground game and on offense, the Bengal receivers will struggle to get open.

Washington Redskins at Green Bay Packers – Sunday 1:00pm | |||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
I’d be an utter nut-job if I took Washington here, in Lambeau againt Green Bay, but just know that they actually have a number of pieces that fit. Too many folks have counted them out but with Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson on the ground — that’s beastly. Defensively, Washington has been playing well and once Dwayne Haskins gets some more playing time, there is actually a lot going on in Washington to be pleased about. The rub of course is that we can never predict what Dan Snyder will do. The Redskin way recently has been to cut the good players and keep the trash, we’ll see if the off-season moves they make add-to or take-away from the promise this team has. Do not expect a good game from your Packers, something isn’t quite right and they can struggle for long stretches sometimes.
