Home / Commentary / STREAMING DEFENSES: Week 16

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa has allowed 27 points in three of their last four games, their only saving grace being the Vikings missing numerous field goals against them. What started out as a hot defensive unit has been exposed. Luckily, the Bucs take on the Lions this week, giving them a great opportunity to get back on track. Detroit is banged up offensively, and Matthew Stafford will be under constant duress; he’s not very mobile and should take multiple sacks. Turnovers are a possibility as well, given the Lions will be in catch up mode all game long.

2. Chicago Bears

Last week, the Bears fielded a banged up secondary against the elite Minnesota receiving core. It resulted in 27 points allowed, but they still managed 3 sacks and 1 interception. Things should be different this week, as they face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags lack offensive talent and have a porous offensive line, setting up a great matchup for the Bears. Gardner Minshew II is prone to giving the ball away and taking sacks, meaning Chicago has great upside in this contest.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia was just torched by Arizona, as the absence of Darius Slay couldn’t be overcome. Expect a nice bounce-back week when they take on their hated rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. While Dallas has an exceptional receiving core, Andy Dalton has not been able to consistently move the chains on offense due to their patchwork offensive line, which the Eagles will take advantage of. Their ferocious front will pressure Dalton all game, and he will force bad throws as a result. Philly is a high risk-high reward option this weekend.

4. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have been an underrated fantasy defense all season long. They get pressure on opposing quarterbacks very well, and are one of the league leaders in sacks. A standard solid performance should be in store against a decimated San Francisco team. With multiple backups starting, the 49ers have been frustratingly inconsistent moving the football. The trend should continue this weekend, and the Cardinals will not hesitate to blitz on passing downs. A few sacks are almost guaranteed, and there’s great turnover upside as well.
