Top 5 Pick ‘Em
Season record: 13-17
Arizona +1.5 (vs. Denver) – There is no hiding it. Both teams are bad. After facing three of the league’s best defenses in the Rams, Bears, and Vikings, the Cardinals get their softest matchup of the year. David Johnson needs to be incorporated into the passing game more, especially since Larry Fitzgerald is still banged up. Johnson is the only running back who has been on the field for more than 90% of snaps over the past three weeks. He is also one of just three running backs who has scored a touchdown in each of the last three weeks. Throw the ball to David Johnson.
New Orleans +2.5 (@ Baltimore) – This will be a true test for Drew Brees and the Saints as they travel to Baltimore on Sunday. The Saints are an NFL best 7-2 following a bye week since 2009 and a lot of people have already anointed them as the clear #2 team in the NFC behind the Rams.
San Francisco +10.5 (vs. Los Angeles Rams) – While great from NFL standards, the Rams are far from undefeated for bettors who have taken their side. The slippage extends even further against the 49ers as the Rams haven’t covered a spread in their last five meetings. I expect this game to be high scoring which bodes well for a double-digit underdog at home.
Los Angeles Chargers -6.5 (vs. Tennessee) – Last week, Marcus Mariota was sacked more times than he completed a pass. It’s unclear whether the Titans are ultra conservative on offense or just plain awful. It’s probably the latter since they are averaging just over 14 points per game.
Philadelphia -4.5 (vs. Carolina) – These two teams are trending in opposite directions. The most concerning thing we’ve seen on the Panthers side is the bizarre play calling at critical points in a game. The Eagles play much better at home and have held opponents to under 20 points per game.
