In a fantasy football league, the most valuable asset is the team owner’s ability to know when to buy players who are on the cusp of breaking out and knowing when to cut loose a player who is about to go into decline. Much like the real-world stock market, making the wrong decisions sometimes can lead to cataclysmic consequences. If you are in a league where you can unload or load up on some of these players, do so!
Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans (Owned in 99% of leagues)
Watson is scoring around the 16th most among QBs, and I think everyone knows that he is better then that. The schedule makers at the NFL really did a number on Watson making him face the Chiefs, Ravens, and Steelers defenses in the first 3 weeks, so a frantic Watson owner might be giving up on him. Trade for him now because he’s about to run a number on the Vikings, Jaguars, and Titans defenses.
Josh Allen, Buffalo (Owned in 98% of leagues)
Don’t get me wrong, Josh Allen is money. I have him in 2 different leagues, and am 3-0 and 2-1. BUT he is not going to end the season as the #2 overall QB. He makes too many mistakes and is going to slowly start to rely on the run game more as they get more comfortable in their new two-back system. I wouldn’t advocate trading Josh Allen for anything less than a king’s ransom, but surely out there in the fantasy world, a QB needy team will pay it. Trade him now, while some owners may think he’s the next Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson, and take solace in getting a little bit worse QB, but major upgrades elsewhere.
Joe Mixon, Cincinnati (Owned in 99% of leagues)
A lot of Mixon owners are getting frustrated right now (including me), but I am taking a step back and taking a breath. Mixon is a top RB and worthy of your first round pick if you spent it on him, and is just getting used to the new Burrow offense. He IS going to bounce back and you need him on your roster for when it happens, ESPECIALLY this week when he gets to face a super terrible Jacksonville run defense. This could be the breakout week, so go and grab him or trade for him now.
Rex Burkhead, New England (Owned in 42% of leagues)
Man I don’t even know why I am writing about Burkhead here. I have made it a life rule that I don’t ever draft or trust Patriots running backs because of how Belichick coaches, but I will caution people here. Burkhead had an amazing game last week (33 points in my scoring system in my main league) and had a LOT of waiver claims in my early waiver. Don’t fall for the trend. Not only is James White going to be back VERY soon, but Michel is still working his way back from his injury and is going to regain the top spot before long. ALL of these reasons on top of the fact that Bill mixes his RBs up like a deck of cards are good enough reasons for you to trade Burkhead if you picked him up.
