Jets trade a quality player for about 5 spots increase in draft pick position + potentially Mr Irrelevant.

But I guess he was on a 1 year contract anyway and probably at the end of his career, so more picks is more picks.

You'll know things are bad when the Jets have collected most of the 7th round of the NFL draft and 2021 UDFA candidates start going back to school.

I'd like to think Douglas was just doing right by a vet who is at the tail end of his career and doesn't deserve to go out on a team that is tanking

All while increasing the probability they get the first overall pick.

It helps that Todd Bowles is effectively trading for him and has experience with him.

He wasn't worth as much to any other coach (combined with the Vita injury).

My god. It just hit me. The Jets are so bad players are happy to go play for former Jets coaches.

That will change after this year.

In a league of re-treads, I'd like to think Adam Gase is done in the NFL after this.

There's tons of former head coaches that seem to stick around the NFL forever as position coaches (OL/DL, etc), but I don't see Gase as one of them. The HC who championed him is out of the NFL, and he doesn't have many ties eslewhere.

He'll probably have to go for a college football job.

Or the Patriots will hire him as offensive assistant to the assistant.

I can't wait for Le'Veon Bell to look like Le'Veon Bell and put the final nail in the "Adam Gase NFL coach" coffin.

Until now there was always lingering doubt that Gases' past failures were situational / GMing.

Jay Cutler + Bad WR corps + Bad OLine

Miami + Worst OLine in the league

Riding on the coattails of one of the greatest QBs in history gets you a lot of credit.

The Jets were honestly probably one of the more talented rosters Gase has had (other than of course the Broncos).

But the signs were always there.
Martellus Bennet having great seasons both before and after Gases' time with the Bears.
Both Tannehills' and Drakes' successes after serving their prison sentences in Miami.

One of these is Jay Cutler and the other is Jameis Winston.

heard the announcers this weekend mention williams' comments earlier in the week and then showed he and Gase on the sideline in what was described as having to be a heated pre-game discussion.

Writing is on the wall. on the floor. on the ceiling. wherever writing can be..

Question is, what are jets management waiting for?

I'll have you know I will not stand for Jameis Winston slander either. He should be the starter in New Orleans and make those games enjoyable.

hearing this dude offering lame excuses each week is weirdly entertaining

He did confirm that the Jets (I'm assuming Douglas) wanted to do right by Steve McLendon and send him somewhere that wasn't a dumpster fire for what will likely be his last season.

Good on them for that.

Gase said it's not the start of a fire sale though. Yeah, no crap, there is no one else on this roster any other team could use. Maybe Crowder.
