this.

One player does not a team make... no matter how good. We sucked with him in the lineup and if we'd signed him we wouldn't be in anywhere close to the position we are in terms of improving our entire roster. With the freed up salary and cap space we've improved on both sides of the ball through free agency and we are flush with draft picks to continue to shore up our many weak spots; particularly on defense where this is a very deep draft year. Still lots of work to do obviously but if we'd kept him (and paid him) I just don't think we would have been able to do what we've done in FA and we wouldn't have the flexibility in the upcoming drafts either. The guy was a beast but our team was so weak across the board it would have taken us his entire contract term to get to a position where we could compete and we probably would have lost him at that point anyway. I know I'm in the minority but I do think our progression to becoming competitive has been accelerated through trading him. It was handled horribly by the team and it sucks in the short term for sure but in the long run its probably for the best.

Except the raiders still have 35 in cap space so you could have all those players and Mac.

... without the draft picks...

Draft picks which have a very small chance of turning into a Mack.

The Raiders plan is fine, but they still need to nail those draft picks.

Cleveland has provided a template to turning around a morbid franchise. Dump some talented players (Mack, Haden), acquire draft capital and cap flexibility, then turn your entire roster over with fresh players. Of course, having Hugh helps, as you then earn the #1 pick.

right, the point is to have an elite player, not 2 maybes. were not talking about a good player, its and elite player at a very important position.

9 pages ... :-k

According to "Tony's 2nd law of FF Forums"?

We have to make this about the Patriots before p.10, otherwise we're in uncharted waters.

Which path though, Tuck Rule, Randy Moss, or something else I'm forgetting?

S'a good point. =D>

Not sure youre forgetting it, but just another cpl of alternatives toi throw into the mix?

    1) Do they have any awful slot WRs that are approximations of the NEP Slot guy: Small, slow, played Lacrosse, white, ivy league college, good hands tho*
    *Any 2 out of 6
    2) Consensus seem to think Carr isnt the long term answer in OAK - What about Carr in NEP (Cassel, Jimmy G, Brissett) post Brady?

Admittedly Carr will be about 39 himself when Brady (FINALLY) hangs it up, but still ...

I did think Gruden would cut Roberts instead of Jordy.

Not sure if Seth has incriminating pictures of MD or what. I would be willing to pay airfare to ship Seth to NEP.
