Yes.

This is one example of what I was referring to a few pages ago about systemic racism not necessarily being an evil racist behind the scenes scheming.

Bill Belichick's son looks like he's on his way to becoming DC in New England also.
No idea what his qualifications are or who else has been considered, etc.

Anything is absurd if you boil it down to the most simple terms.

The best potential correct Jeapordy answer is "What is nepotism Alex"

Right, I'm genuinely curious about an analysis of hiring practices but this...

...must be accounted for.

I'll never forget the primary message from one of my first sports management courses before I abandoned it as a potential major - 'it is not what you know, it is who you know.' This is true in any business, but it sure seems like another level in sports admin. Is the NFL even more egregious than others in the industry? I don't know enough information to objectively answer.

Reading through the last few pages and seeing the names Shanahan, Schottenheimer, and Zimmer being brought up in this context...them having the path cleared for them has nothing to do with their skin color. That path comes with a healthy dose of inherent bias, but the root of that problem is in nepotism and buddy-hires. Is that a bigger issue than systemic racism for all other hires? I don't know, but it's two separate issues.

White men getting more opportunities and in turn offering more white men more opportunities is inherently Tangled up in racism. Even if the racism isn't overt (and sometimes it is overt).

but the topic under discussion is a bit more focused and nuanced than simply white men with opportunities giving other white men opportunities. nepotism happens across all races as well as social and economic classes.

now, does nepotism in the NFL hinder an even playing field for coaching and front office jobs for people of color? yes. but i wouldn't classify that as racist by the definition of believing that one race is superior to others. it's a good ole boy network, for sure. but a good ole boy/grease network isn't by definition inherently racist despite how the phenomena creates an uneven playing field.

It's systemic racism. I've said for pages now it's not necessarily an evil racist manipulating the system.

i guess for me, i limit my use of the word "racist" or "racism" purely to the evil thought, belief or manifestation of those thoughts or beliefs.

would i call it discrimination? yes. racism? no.

I'll meet y'all in the middle and call it systemic discrimination.
