I saw the 'Dolphins prefer Herbert' story on twitter and never gave it much thought.

Then I saw who reported it -

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald suggests the Dolphins may prefer Oregon's Justin Herbert to Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in April's draft.

So Dolphins fans, you're safe.

Armando + suggests + may = nah

I read it as more of a "we're not trading up".

Talk up your #2 guy and hope teams are gullible enough to believe your #1 guy will fall past you.

NYG is probably auctioning the #4 pick between the Colts / Panthers / whoever else.

Something something correlation causation....

Similarly to spending in free agency, drafting a first round QB creates expectations. If you fail to meet those expectations...

to be fair, 40% of those picks are Browns, Cardinals or Jets

It's refreshingly weird for it not to be 40% Browns by themselves.

Here's the all-star squad. Even included Gary Kubiak though Lynch didn't start so it seems the twitter guy didn't count that.

edit: Gary Kubiak technically wasn't fired he resigned.

2019:
Kyler Murray - Kliff Kingsbury remains

Dwayne Haskins - Jay Gruden fired

2018:
Baker Mayfield - Hue. Ahahahaha
Sam Darnold - Todd Bowles fired
Josh Allen - Sean McDermott remains
Josh Rosen - Steve Wilks fired
Lamar Jackson - Harbaugh remains

2017:
Mitch Trubisky - John Fox fired
Pat Mahomes - Reid SB ring
Deshaun Watson - BoB is coach/GM

2016:
Jared Goff - Jeff Fisher fired
Carson Wentz - Pederson remains

Looked up the coaches/situations for context. I couldn't remember if Kubiak was fired or retired.

I think the only guys on that list that didn't deserve their firing are Todd Bowles (shoot GM) and maybe Pat Shurmer (re-build stay the course).

The rest were on their way out the door anyway regardless of the draft pick. Especially guys like Jeff Fisher, Lovie Smith, Hue Jackson, and John Fox.

Deep, meaning there about a half dozen give or take of projectible starters whereas there have not been many in recent drafts. My cursory observations have not yielded anything of consequence beyond that tier though. And early reviews indicate those guys are all probably going round 1 - potentially relatively early round 1.

I'm curious where the line is from stud OT to stud WR as it pertains to the Jets picking 11th (just after the Browns by the way). At what point does going Jeudy or Lamb over the best available OT make sense?

edit - I guess this is more of a draft thread question than Browns question but I'm assuming the Browns are going to take the OL that I wish would fall to the Jets.

I think the depth of this WR class makes decision making incredibly simple for the Jets - pick a big guy round 1 and a guy that catches passes round 2. I don't think you need to move up for one on Thursday, but you may need to consider it on Friday.

the more QB's that go in the top 10, the better

But I guess that's always the case when you pick outside of the top 10

Grabbing a OT, then WR is my hope right now
Then some sort of CB, OL, Edge regardless of what they do in FA

This doesn't appear to be the class to chase after CB and EDGE. Sure, if your scouting department identifies a diamond in the rough throw the dart. Just wouldn't expect it. I think this class is deep enough to expect your 3rd round pick to have a good chance of developing into an asset, but probably best not to be particular about position.

I currently have no inkling about what the Browns may do on day 2, but that's primarily because I don't know what to expect in March. I think April priorities will be easier to shake out once the dust settles from free agency.
