Ok so Playing devils advocate here....

You are on offense and have the ball
At the one yard line going the other way (so 99 yards away from end zone). You fumble the ball and it goes backwards into the end zone but out of bounds before either team can recover it and thus is also a touchback.

So you should get the ball back and get it back on the one yard line?

It's a safety.

I get the frustration on the touchback rule, but what's to stop an RB from underhand yeeting out the back of the end zone from the 20 yard line?

Suddenly 1st/2nd/3rd and goal from the 1?

Suddenly we're drafting RBs on forearm size?

Seems to be the only fix is on any play fumble out the back of the endzone is loss of down and back to the original line of scrimmage.

Definitely would require a super special rule, since the same touchback rule is used for punts into the endzone and kickoffs into the endzone. It's all the same thing.

Kickers are 8 for 13 on field goals so far this weekend. Good kickers.

Kidding...but that sounds like a NEP fan during their SB runs and saying "we need a new long snapper". ...
