Back by popular demand! The 10th Annual Kicker/Defense Challenge.

Same rules as last year. You have to join a Yahoo Public Competitive League and use your first two draft picks to pick a kicker and defense. Whoever wins their league wins the sand. If you are interested in playing this year, just post in this thread. There will be a $500 sand entry fee and all sand collected will go to the winner.

Anyone who pays is a contestant. There will be no limit to the number of sharks who can play, but every shark can only have one entry. The league id must be posted prior to the draft, and once the draft starts, they are locked into that team. No starting over (unless it gets totally messed up where the first two picks don't go kicker/defense). It must be a public league that everyone can view. If we can't see your league, then you signed up for a private league and that entry will not count.

Whoever goes the furthest wins the pot. If more than one shark wins, the pot will be split between them.

I'll start us off by saying I'm playing. My $500 sand is in. I'll continue to update the first post of this thread as sharks join and drafts begin.

Everyone should be playing in "Casual" leagues.

You can join the competition right up until the week before the season starts, as long as you post your team name, draft date, and league ID before your draft starts.
yahoo wrote:Deadline for starting with the first game of the NFL season

For your league to score for the entire NFL season schedule, your draft must be complete before the scheduled start of the first game of the season (September 4, 2014).

Post your league id and team name in this thread so I can add links to the league in this post.

Thin at WR, but had to grab Crowell when he was still there in the 13th round.

Yahoo gave me a D.

Coinciding with Some Early-Round Reaches, ™ Will Be Alone at the Bottom
Powered by Automated Insights
Draft Summary

It was almost too hard to watch as ™ took the fifth pick and drove any playoff hopes they had right off a cliff. They are projected to finish 1-13-0 (1,360), bad enough for a 10th-place finish in Yahoo Public 207335 League. They waited until the ninth round to secure their top quarterback, picking up Eli Manning with the 85th overall selection. They built one of the worst groups of WRs in the league, as they have Alshon Jeffery, Marques Colston, Allen Robinson, and Charles Johnson for their rotation.
Schedule

Week 5 will not be fun for ™, as their top two projected scorers (Eli Manning and Mark Ingram) will have a bye week. Looking at the season as a whole, they have the most challenging schedule. Along with the most demanding overall schedule, both the first four games and last four games of the season are pretty average for ™.

Draft Notes

Not Something to Brag About

K is the only above-average position on ™.
No Back-Up No Cry

Ignoring roster depth, ™ chose only one player at four different positions (QB, TE, DEF, and K).
Starting Slowly

™ got off to a sluggish start, winding up with the fewest projected points in the league during the first half of the draft.
A Low Floor, but a High Ceiling?

™ grabbed a sleeper in Ladarius Green with pick No. 145.
Arm Cannon

Eli Manning is one of the most dynamic NFL QBs. Projections have him ranking second in plays over 40 yards with 12 and TDs over 40 yards with 4.6.
Earning His Keep

According to projections, Eli Manning should finish ranked sixth in the league in passing TDs (29.2) and second in passing yards (4,700).

I'll bet anyone (multiple people) 500 sands that I win more than one game.

I laughed at dynamic too...but I do like him this season.

After Some Early Gambles, el guapo Has a Great Team if Their Goal is to Finish Dead-Ass Last
Powered by Automated Insights
Draft Summary

Despite selecting with the fourth overall pick, el guapo couldn't capitalize on the opportunity and drafted a roster that will have trouble winning. Opponents will enjoy beating this team with regularity, which is projected to finish ninth in Yahoo Public 325284 League with a record of 3-11-0 (1,390 points). They went after the diva position early, using three of their first five selections on WRs Mike Evans (third round), Emmanuel Sanders (fourth round), and Jordan Matthews (fifth round). They have the worst group of RBs in the league, as they have Joseph Randle, Shane Vereen, Isaiah Crowell, and C.J. Spiller on their team.
Schedule

el guapo should use Week 6 to finally build that mini trainyard. Really just about anything other than checking fantasy football will do. They have four players and the most projected fantasy points on bye that week. Looking at the entire season, they have the most difficult schedule. Along with the most demanding overall schedule, both the first four games and last four games of the season are about league-average difficulty for el guapo.
Draft Notes

Maybe You Should Add Tony Gonzalez While You're At It
In Week 8, both Zach Ertz and Julius Thomas will be on bye for el guapo.

Close to the Vest
el guapo was focused on a squad with minimal volatility, grabbing six "low-risk" players out of 15 picks.

Show Some ID
el guapo isn't afraid to rob the cradle, drafting the youngest team in the league with an average of just 4.1 years of NFL experience.

Biggest Steal
el guapo may have found a gem in the ninth round, grabbing Zach Ertz (84th overall pick vs. ADP of 70.1).

That's a bit harsh.

At least I'm projected to win 3x as many as Elgamister.
