Back by popular demand! The 11th Annual Kicker/Defense Challenge.

Same rules as last year. You have to join a Yahoo Public Competitive League and use your first two draft picks to pick a kicker and defense. Whoever wins their league wins the sand. If you are interested in playing this year, just post in this thread. There will be a $500 sand entry fee and all sand collected will go to the winner.

Anyone who pays is a contestant. There will be no limit to the number of sharks who can play, but every shark can only have one entry. The league id must be posted prior to the draft, and once the draft starts, they are locked into that team. No starting over (unless it gets totally messed up where the first two picks don't go kicker/defense). It must be a public league that everyone can view. If we can't see your league, then you signed up for a private league and that entry will not count.

Whoever goes the furthest wins the pot. If more than one shark wins, the pot will be split between them.

I'll start us off by saying I'm playing. My $500 sand is in. I'll continue to update the first post of this thread as sharks join and drafts begin.

Everyone should be playing in "Casual" leagues.

You can join the competition right up until the week before the season starts, as long as you post your team name, draft date, and league ID before your draft starts.

For your league to score for the entire NFL season schedule, your draft must be complete before the scheduled start of the first game of the season

Post your league id and team name in this thread so I can add links to the league in this post.

I'll definitely be in again this year but you're going to need to advertise in the Main Forum as usual if you want to jog everyone's memories about this fine challenge.

Drafted from the 7 slot, not great but could have been a lot worse. Only 3 of us drafting live. Autopick was actually making some pretty good teams for the absent owners.

The Wrong Foot
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/720550/3

QB Brady / Carr
RB Latavius / Gore / Jennings / Woodhead
WR Jordy / Decker / Floyd / Marvin Jones / Funchess
TE Eifert / Barnidge
K Gostkowski
D SEA

Yahoo gave me a D+ for my draft. I always love the recaps:

Draft Summary

The Wrong Foot wasn't able to overcome a poor draft position (seventh overall), and that will have to serve as the excuse as to why they are projected to land in ninth place in Yahoo Public 720550 League. With the roster as is, they are expected to finish 2-12-0 (1,459 points). They ensured WR depth would be a non-issue, as they have five WRs on the roster. However, production might be the problem. Their receivers are projected to average 134 points this year, fewer than the league average of 145. They ended up with the worst group of RBs in the league, as they have Latavius Murray, Rashad Jennings, Frank Gore, and Danny Woodhead on their roster.

I also drafted 7th, there was at various times between 3 and 5 people live drafting. No smack talk or any talking at all in the chat.

QB: Cousins/Bortles
RB: J. Charles/D. Murray/J. Langford/A.Abdullah
WR: R. Cobb/G. Tate/L. Fitzgerald/E. Sanders/D. Jackson/S.Coates
TE: D. Allen
K: Gostkowski
DEF: DEN

No draft recap yet, my drafting may have broken the system.

I am projected to go 2-12, so it looks like I have my work cut out for me.

EDIT: Took a while for the report card to come in, but it looks like I got a C.

Projected to Finish Ninth, Kickers4Lyfe Still Has Work To Do
Draft Summary

Kickers4Lyfe wasn't able to overcome a poor draft position (seventh overall), and that will have to serve as the excuse as to why they are projected to land in ninth place in Yahoo Public 703260 League. With the roster as is, they are expected to finish 2-12-0 (1,484 points). They loaded up on wide receivers, but didn't take the right ones. Their WRs are projected to average 132 points this season, fewer than the league average of 143. They ended up with the bottom WR duo in the league, as they have Golden Tate and Randall Cobb on the team.

We're not mad. We're just disappointed. Go nominate yourself for the Toyota Hall Of Fame to make it up to us.

Schedule

Kickers4Lyfe should do pretty much anything other than watch football during Week 9. They have five players and the most projected fantasy points on bye that week. Looking at the season as a whole, they have one of the most daunting slates. In addition to having the second-most taxing overall schedule, Kickers4Lyfe has the toughest first four games of the season.
Draft Notes

Like Choosing Your Favorite Jonas Brother

Kickers4Lyfe will have some nail-biting decisions to make each week at RB, with a small projected points difference between their second- (Jeremy Langford), third- (DeMarco Murray), and fourth-ranked (Ameer Abdullah) RBs.
Up and Comers

Assembling a squad of rising stars is key to fantasy success and Kickers4Lyfe may have done just that, with five players estimated to top their prior-season numbers by a substantial amount.
May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor

Kickers4Lyfe might need to consult a fortune teller each week. Their top-drafted QB (Blake Bortles) and second-drafted QB (Kirk Cousins) have similar seasonal point projections.
Taking Some Time to get Warmed Up

Kickers4Lyfe got off to a lackluster start, winding up with the weakest projected point total in the league during the first half of the draft.
Super Sleepers

At picks No. 127 and 147, Kickers4Lyfe snagged a couple of late-round fliers with upside in Dwayne Allen and Sammie Coates.
My One and Only

Ignoring roster depth, Kickers4Lyfe chose only one player at three different positions (TE, DEF, and K).

Player Analysis

S. Gostkowski, K
Round 2, Pick 14
Apparently ADP is Overrated

With their second-round pick, Kickers4Lyfe pulled the trigger. They took Stephen Gostkowski at pick number 14 despite an ADP of just 76.2 across all Yahoo! leagues.
Jamaal Charles, RB
Round 3, Pick 27
Stolen In Broad Daylight

Jamaal Charles was the best value pick of the round and could be the cause of many sleepless nights for the other managers.
Golden Tate, WR
Round 5, Pick 47
Rethinking That One

Golden Tate went with the 47th pick, even though he's projected to fall outside of the top-20 in the NFL in both receiving TDs (27th) and receiving yards (22nd) with 6.8 and 1,022 respectively.
DeMarco Murray, RB
Round 6, Pick 54
Let Me Check it Again

Why can't I find DeMarco Murray on my draft cheat sheet? Oh wait, here he is under "mid-to-late-round flier."
Blake Bortles, QB
Round 7, Pick 67
Was Blake Bortles Worth it at Pick No. 67?

Kickers4Lyfe sure hopes so. The Jaguars' signal-caller is projected to earn 286 points this year, after putting up 334 last season.

I've decided to pass on this challenge for this year. I don't need one more league to manage at this time. I'll leave my sand$ in the pool for the winner(s). Best of luck to everyone in the challenge.
