Brian Finneran-WR-Falcons Apr. 13 - 6:03 pm et

Falcons WR Brian Finneran (knee surgery) has not been cleared for minicamps.

Finneran, who's missed two straight years now, somewhat surprisingly wasn't part of Atlanta's roster purge in the winter. The 32-year-old will really have to impress in post-draft workouts to have any chance of making the roster.

Boley signs Falcons' first-round tender offer

Falcons signed restricted free agent SLB Michael Boley to a one-year, $2.017 million contract.
Boley, 25, has made huge strides each year since going in the 2005 fifth round. After Julian Peterson, he may be the game's most imposing 4-3 SAM linebacker. Boley finished 2007 with 109 tackles and four forced fumbles. He should remain an asset in big play-heavy IDP leagues this season. Apr. 10 - 12:05 am et

I hope he can repeat last years performance and we can give him a little extension after this season. He was beastly last year.

My boy Simon Fraser signed with your guys recently. Two year deal.

He will play hard.

You now have about a half dozen Buckeyes on the roster. :D

Stephen Nicholas-LB-Falcons May. 10 - 4:26 pm et

Falcons 2007 fourth-round pick Stephen Nicholas is running as a backup.
Nicholas nearly overtook Demorrio Williams for a starting job as a rookie, but apparently the new coaching staff didn't like what it saw on film. With Curtis Lofton stationed inside and Keith Brooking back at WLB, Nicholas will probably open the season as Atlanta's fourth linebacker.

Brian Finneran-WR-Falcons May. 10 - 3:28 pm et

Brian Finneran was back at practice Saturday, almost exactly a year from when he tore his ACL.

He's missed the last two seasons with knee injuries and looks highly unlikely to make the Falcons. He's probably only getting a chance to make the squad because of what he's meant to the organization in the past.

Michael Turner-RB-Falcons May. 10 - 3:25 pm et

Michael Turner was back practicing with the Falcons Saturday.
He missed Atlanta's first minicamp, but it looks like he's been medically cleared. It's uncertain if he is fully participating, but the shoulder surgery he underwent after last season isn't a huge concern.

Keith Brooking-LB-Falcons May. 10 - 3:23 pm et

Keith Brooking opened up Atlanta's minicamp as a weak-side linebacker.

Rookie Curtis Lofton, who is becoming a huge IDP sleeper, split time with second-year pro Tony Taylor in the middle. Brooking is a better player on the weak side, so this helps the whole defense.

Matt Ryan-QB-Falcons May. 10 - 3:21 pm et

Matt Ryan opened Falcons minicamp behind Chris Redman and Joey Harrington.

He split snaps with D.J. Shockley. Atlanta will make Ryan earn his way up the depth chart, but it would be a shocker if he wasn't starting for the Falcons by midseason, if not earlier.

D.J. Shockley-QB-Falcons May. 12 - 6:31 pm et

Falcons QB D.J. Shockley (ACL surgery) was limited to one-on-one drills at the opening of post-draft minicamps Monday.

"They still try to keep me out of the team work just in case anyone was to fall on my leg," he said. Shockley is basically competing against Joey Harrington to be Atlanta's No. 3 QB. He has a cheaper salary working in his favor.

C.J. Gaddis-DB-Falcons May. 12 - 6:28 pm et

Falcons waived DB C.J. Gaddis.
Gaddis, Philadelphia's fifth-round pick in 2007, should've never left Clemson a year early. He spent all of last season on Atlanta's practice squad.

Roddy White-WR-Falcons May. 12 - 6:16 pm et

Roddy White was held out of the Falcons' minicamp practice Monday with a "tweaked" hamstring.

Coach Mike Smith called White's lack of participation "precautionary." White, who led the NFL in yards after the catch last season, is unlikely to benefit from a toned down passing attack under new coordinator Mike Mularkey.

Joe Horn-WR-Falcons May. 12 - 2:40 pm et

Joe Horn has requested to be traded from the Falcons.
Horn, who has been removed from the starting lineup in favor of Laurent Robinson, says he doesn't want to be a "just-in-case guy" for Atlanta. We suspect that's the best he can do at this point, so he may be indirectly requesting the end of his career.

Harry Douglas-WR-Falcons May. 15 - 11:03 am et

Rookie receiver Harry Douglas reportedly created the "biggest buzz" at Falcons post-draft minicamps.
Douglas has an opportunity to replace Michael Jenkins as Atlanta's slot receiver. He'd line up between starters Roddy White and Laurent Robinson.

Matt Ryan-QB-Falcons May. 15 - 7:29 pm et

The Falcons have begun contract negotiations with No. 3 overall pick Matt Ryan, according to NFL.com's Adam Schefter.

Ryan's agent, Tom Condon, is well known for holding QBs out of training camp, so this doesn't mean much. Schefter calls the talks "preliminary" but ongoing. Condon already brokered one rookie deal; No. 1 pick Jake Long's.
