James Butler-DB-Giants Feb. 27 - 11:37 am et

The Giants have extended restricted free agent SS James Butler a tender.

It's believed to be a low tender. Butler was originally undrafted, so the Jints are taking a small risk here. He was a steady starter in 2007 when healthy.

Kawika Mitchell-LB- Giants Feb. 28 - 10:03 am et

The Giants have a multi-year offer on the table for free agent LB Kawika Mitchell, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
The proposal is said to be "just okay," nothing spectacular. Mitchell has experience inside and outside and will be wealthy if he hits the market.

Eugene Wilson-DB-Patriots Feb. 29 - 10:49 pm et

The Giants have been in contact with free agent S Eugene Wilson.

Wilson hasn't been courted for a visit by any teams, but he's also thought to be on the Dolphins' radar. Wilson is a true cover safety, which the Giants could've used even before they lost Gibril Wilson to Oakland on Friday.

Sammy Knight will visit the Giants.

He's already one visit with Denver. Knight is just a stopgap alternative at this stage of his career, and would probably best be used off the bench.

Jeremy Shockey-TE- Giants Mar. 2 - 11:43 am et

The Giants have declined to talk with teams inquiring about Jeremy Shockey.

The Saints reached out to the Giants on free agency eve, but New York made it clear Shockey isn't on the block. Even if the teams agreed to compensation, Shockey couldn't pass a physical because of his broken leg.

Javon Walker-WR- Broncos Mar. 2 - 11:15 am et

The Giants are among several teams that have inquired about free agent Javon Walker.

This may be just Walker's agent trying to drum up interest in his client, but he's seemingly attracted a good amount of attention since getting cut. Walker has good hands and is only 29, so even if his knee no longer allows him to separate deep, he should be able to forge a career as a possession threat.

The Giants are expected to only offer free agent S Sammy Knight a Kawika Mitchel like one-year deal.

Knight is only a league average starter at this stage in his career, but this offer may not get it done. Mitchell played for just $1 million last season.

Trent Green-QB- Dolphins Mar. 5 - 8:40 pm et

In addition to the Giants, Rams, and Saints, the Packers have reportedly reached out to free agent Trent Green.
Green Bay could use a tested veteran behind Aaron Rodgers. St. Louis still seems to be Green's most likely landing spot. He's a native of the Gateway City and the Rams recently hired QBs coach Terry Shea, a close friend of his.

Rory Johnson-LB-Giants May. 12 - 4:29 pm et

Giants waived LB Rory Johnson, P Owen Tolson, and DT Josh Muse.
Muse and Tolson were undrafted rookies. Johnson, who played linebacker alongside Patrick Willis at Ole Miss, was an undrafted rookie last offseason.
